Our US cousins may well have already seen this series, but if you are in the UK and have Netflix there is a series called simply 'The War'. If anyone remembers the UK series The World At War, it's the equiaelent, but told from a US perspective. Stunning footage, incredibly poignant interviews with the vets who were 'there'. The US and UK had a totally different approach to WW2, and it shows in these documentaries.
One class line I heard last night, they were showing 283 Flying Fortresses on a bombing raid and getting shot to pieces. The British preferred night bombing raids but only one bomb per plane was within 5 miles of the target, the US pilots had been told that their sights meant that they could drop a bomb in pickle jar. As one pilot commented...we couldn't even hit France....
