Leopard C1 MEXAS
Leopard C1 MEXAS
I bought this Tamiya Gerpard late last year as an unfinished project. It had no turret, wheels missing, etc. But the reason I bought it was because it had the old clutch gearbox in it, I know most people rip them out and install the more common twin gearbox but I wanted to demonstrate the versatility of the IBU2 in getting a vintage Tamiya tank and getting it up and running with all the functions of a modern tank with out the need to rip out and replace which often means a cheap tank cost more than a quality tank.
So first test was to install an IBU2 and get it driving. This was quickly done by making a motor lead with bullet connectors for connecting the large 540 motor and a micro servo adding to the steering clutch, quick test run and appears fine and responsive.
Next I got some spares from fellow club members. Forgebear for the turret and Peter for wheels and tyres etc.
Then other features
Speaker for sound
Traverse servo (use heng long turret ring)
Elevation servo
LED flash
And this is how it stayed for a few months, until last week when I decided to convert it into a C1 MEXAS which is a Canadian Leo1A4 up armoured to equivalent modern standards
So here’s the current progress on the main body.
Few mods on the turret, relocating vision unit and adding a custom hidden battle unit.
Still a lot to do, but hopefully will be fully battle ready for this months tank club meeting. Along with some custom made sounds.

Re: Leopard C1 MEXAS
Well work progressing slowly.
Wired up and tested the battle unit.
Added IR emitter tube
Built up more frontal armour
And that's all I've managed over the last week.
