Don't know if it was specifically put on as a rain guard but I agree with DB that such a thing could easily been welded on in the field at the request of the tanks crew. Maybe to keep flying dirt from sliding into the mechanism that allowed the viewing slit to be opened and closed easily.

That was my thought on its use too. The hatch getting jammed down would be a bit of an issue

No just a robust discussion they are all wrong , talk in terms of models correct procedure stuff the welds it is a home mod with the use of CA glue and milliput

We like to have a go and all the tanks are different and with character , it does not matter ,I agree with jarndice and his fantastic summary.
The key point to remember is they are toys so not to take things so seriously regardless of opinions everyone is able to speak freely .

But the dirt theory and snow and ice sounds good .

The main issue Do they exist on a late tiger 1 and the answer is YES .
As jarndice has explained what unit that it was attached to and that portion of history would be nice to have , It is a minor problem but I'm sure in time more info will be forthcoming like many have suggested .
Latvia sounds good and that makes perfect sense .

Tell her you're thinking of buying (and restoring) an old Land Rover. It's amazing how little hassle there is given the option! Mine's much happier with the tanks - much less chance of tracking oil into the house.....

I have a very firm view on my hobby, If I was not building Tanks I would be digging the garden or mowing the lawn or down the garden centre putting my back out lugging bags of compost no no I know the difference between manly endeavours and womans work and she is welcome to it,
I just wish whenever she collects compost in my car she at least washed out the back shaun
