Simon Hi, Your build just gets better,
I noticed your front hatches are pretty much vertical when open,
"Tanks for the Memory"recently wrote about a mod to get them to slope back as per the real thing,
Unfortunately it will mean getting out the debonder to remove the hatches,
The Metal hatches have a hinged plate that fits into a recess built into the Tank body, that plate is too thick and need filing down to make it thinner, this allows the hatch to clear the rim of the hatch opening and to rest slanting backwards.
Every Tiger 1 Body whether it be HENG LONG, TAIGEN, or Torro has two aeriel holders on the edge of the engine grills,
The 1/1 Tiger only had one with the exception of command Tanks.
This foolishness began with TAMIYA who first mistakenly fitted two of them, and when Heng Long were accused of copying Tamiya, which they denied, it was a bit awkward for them when this fault was pointed out on both makers Tigers isn't coincidence wonderful? Looking from the front the holder on the right is wrong!

Perhaps more knowledge people will chime in but I had read the driver of a Tiger couldn't reach the controls and be out of the hatch at the same time. So if you leave your driver like that you can never move the tank.

This is an old debate.

It seems to be settled that the Tiger 1 could not be driven with the driver looking out of the hatch - however, what you see is another crew member sitting on the side sponson (or standing behind the driver) helping to guide the driver. This was quite common.

So yes, you can have a guy sticking his head out!

Anyway, your Tiger is really taking shape quite nicely. I really like the opening engine hatch, very nice!

Not sure if I'm going to be able to open mine up on my Tiger build just because I've spliced 2 upper decks together from 2 different Tigers. Guess I should post up some pics of this build as its happening rather then after its done.

Excuse me, have you ever BEEN in a Tiger? There is no question of standing, or sitting on a sponson, and looking like that. I think it's the driver.

When my little sister was learning to ride a bike my Dad screwed wooden blocks on the pedals to cope with her tiny legs ( I hope she never reads this) is there any reason why 131s pedals havn't been extended allowing the driver to drive while looking out of the hatch? shaun

Got me buggered. In the 'buttoned up position, the driver has to be when seated, able to both look through the vision block in front, and/or use the periscope in the hatch, and be below the hatch. IF as a driver he was able to operate the steering, peddals and gears effectively while his head was out of the hatch to the shoulder line, what was he sitting on ?
The back of the seat ?
To do this there must have been some form of device or aid that he could prop up on to see but how did he reach the foot controls ? I assume there was not much adjustment of the seating position forward or back, let alone a fold down bench to perch on ?
I cant get my head around the fact that a driver of a Tiger 1 would have all the controls to hand, foot & vision when buttoned up in an ergonomic position, then without any form of compromise, open the hatch & cavourt around like a dog in the back of a ute on his way to a building site
I summise its in gear & rolling, old mate is doing his thing taking a load off his ass & correcting direction when he needs to until he has to resume seated stance to properly influence the full control system.
Any soldier that can see a camera will make an effort to get his moment of 'fame' especially in one of the most powerful machines of war on the planet at the time...............
