Hi all
Apart from being bored stiff with this damm bad back and hip, I thought I let you have the lastest pictures of my effort at a M270.
They just off my lifting actuators for the missle box and then fitted to a basic box once I'm happy with all the workings I'll start on the detail work.

Well she now drives and turns also the missle box rotates and also lift's. Sooo now I have decided it's got to fire at least one missle so I've decided to go for the PFRMs load out which is an airburst system and is only one large rocket in each pod. So I might have a chance to design a working system to fire just the two rockets, (not sure about the airburst bit :haha: ) but you never know I'll have a rocket 150mm long by 30mm dia might by able to rig something up >:< my god that would surprise a few people at a battle day.
Anyway looks like I've got time on my hands to try and design something whilst I get back on feet (or rather the other half lets me get back in the garage).

Hi all
well its been a while but I've finally got back to this project and so started on some of the detail work. I thought I'd get the big stuff out of the way first and then work down to the tiny bits later as and when.
I going to use a mix of HL (RX-18) for motor control, engine sound, Lights and missile table transversing, but driving the RX-18 through a RC5HL converter and a Turnigy 9X transmitter, Thats only 3 channels and so leaving the remaining 6 channels for missle platform lifting, missile firing system and maybe missile pods removal and replacement plus any thing else that might be needed or will fit in. Due to the low chassis profile space is very limited.

hopefully do the window shutters, ariel bases, and doors next.

Funnily I was chatting about this build at our meet, I wondered what happened to it, glad to see it's back on track.

It's an excellent build, would love to do one, one day...

To Danzil
Pertaining to your rocket launching capabilities. Have you considered using a FIRING SYSTEM the same kind we use for fireworks.

Hi
I have actually fired 2 rockets from a mocked up launcher. Using a electrical initiater. At 15' ele the first went approxiamately 100m and then exploded in the air, It flew quite true and the trail looked good ( a big cloud of white smoke at the laucher and a thin streak in the air.
Second attempt resulted in again a cloud at the launcher a thin streak but a lot less height resulting in hitting the deck at about 40m and going off on the ground (result a nice little hole in the deck) :wtf: .
As a result I have decide to leave the pyrotecnyts alone and go back to either an air launch (compressed soda stream cartridge with maybe 20m range) the cartridge in the rocket and a simple plunger to puncture the nozzle on firing ,( rocket to launcher tube sealing would determine effectiveness of launch) or just use some simple spring launchers and release catches for about a 10m range,(problem with this method is strong enough means of releasing launch catches against the spring pressure).
Still at least with the rocket/rockets being in a pod I can build the M270 and play with various firing systems / methods untill I'm happy with a safe and visually effective method :haha:
Since the last experiment the wife now stands at the garage door and asks if I "building" or "experimenting" if its building she will come in ! if not!!

Denzil,
for the compressed air route you could use the storage cannister and valve gear used for model airplane retracts. The cannister is filled using compressed air.
