I ordered new motors for the HL King tiger. I bought the small gear puller set from Ali express so no problem at all removing the pinion gear. So now I went to tap the gear on resting it on a vise. All that happened was after some tapping it made the new motor fall apart at the bottom! And I can't figure out how to put it back together so I gave up and got a new motor same type, but afraid to try the exercise again. It is unclear how you are to rest the motor solid while you tap on the gear. The shaft it goes on does not go through to the bottom for some reason. Or the motor housing is just longer.
Can anyone tell me how to get the gear on the new motor? (I think they're mabuchi not sure, can update the post later teloing/ showing the motor....help rctankware your my only hope!
need help with motor pinion gear
Re: need help with motor pinion gear
Marc, don't know if this would help but when you buy Walterson gears they come with a pinion puller AND a pinion pusher. I think if you are hammering it back in you need to make sure that the gear axle is rest on something solid so that you don't just destroy the motor when the axle comes out.

Didn't know they made a pinion PUSHER... You'd think whoever made the thing would remember to design a way to install a gear!

to the bouncy room ! Yay !
Re: need help with motor pinion gear
I did not want to post a new thread as this one exists so...
I recently bought a Walkera pinion puller. I didn't realize it's only a pinion puller until I tried installing the gear back to the motor. Any ideas other than getting a tool like the Watersons?

As long as the shaft itself is resting on something hard and not the motor casing itself, you can hammer in the gear in gently provided it is line up properly. The main thing is that you cannot put force on the shaft without support as it will push the shaft out of the wire brush bundle inside the motor.

Cool! Thanks guys. I got a vice here, I'll try it out with the stock motor then. I'm expecting new motors this week. So excited to install these already.

Re: need help with motor pinion gear
If it's a brass pinion and you have access to a blowtorch or a gas hob, you could try heating the pinion up until it changes colour and then tapping it on. While the heat expansion is working it should make the task easier. There is no way that you can tap the pinion onto the shaft when cold unless the other end is on a hard surface, you will just push the casing apart.
Another option is a blunt nail the same diameter as the shaft (2.3mm) that you can use at the opposite end to the pinion.

Wibblys idea has merit but is fraught with hazard, I would suggest that you put the complete motor in the freezer overnight and the new pinion on a hot plate, then allow the pinion to slide down the shaft with perhaps a little persuasion from a small hammer, you should avoid telling your partner about the contents of the freezer
