gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
So this could turn out to be a dum question but here goes! I want to stabilize the main gun on my 2a6 so it continues to point at the same target in the vertical/ horizontal pain until I tell it to move, I plan on adding servo rotation and elevation, now is it as easy as just adding a helicopter gyro been the servo and control board? Or do I need some specialist piece of electronics to achieve my desire! Hope you can help guys because this is beyond what little area of expertise I have ha ha ha

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
No not a daft question and I'm sure a few others including me want to do the same.
From what I have read basically yes a heli gyro is what's required and I bought one to try but the instructions are all heli talk so couldn't figure it out

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
That's what I was thinking of doing Ian, but I thought I would try abit of research first, but like you say every heli site is in some weird heli/ technical language, I think am prob just going to have to do it and see what happens!

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
I think the one I bought was a ga250 which looked simply servo elevation into it gyro, then elevation servo out plus a plug to spare receiver channel to turn on and off.
But instruction goes on about changing pulse widths to match servo, fine but I don't know the pulse width of my servos.
then it doesn't mention how to mount the gyro, horizontal or vertical in turret or on gun/elevation
Strangely I managed to get better results when connected to the traverse servo, but the traverse tended to creep rather than keep still then after a bit just went out of control.
Need some heli guy to help translate

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
Don't bother it doesn't work, bough a couple of heli gyros and no luck. What you need is a submarine auto leveler. However the issue is you can't switch them off.

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
Do you mean you can't override them and move the gun where you want Tom? Or just that there always active? Gutted about the gyro thing thought it would be a cheap solution! Where do you even buy auto levellers?

Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
Clark board G series has vertical and horizontal gun stabilization that is more tank friendly.
Re: gun stablization/ helicopter gyro
Hey sponge, no you can override for up and down movements but you can't switch out the levelling action on most I've seen.
If you want to go this route I know a man who makes them, about £25 posted. It's downside is it only has three sensitivity settings.
There's a German one from modelluboot.de that's more adjustable
