Lipo discharging?

I know lipo's have to be discharged if you're not going to use them for more then a week however how long should it take to do this? I plugged the battery into the charger and set it to storage and after 5 hours it was still discharging. It's a 7.4 volt 7600mah Traxxas lipo battery with the built in balance plug and it seems to be able to run forever! It's run my 18lb King Tiger off road for 3 straight hours and thats with BIG steep hills and mud thrown in. The charger discharges at a rate of 2amps automaticly.

Anyway I won't be able to run my tanks much for the next few weeks, my mom just passed away last night and I have to take care of her and I don't want to ruin the battery.

Any ideas on discharge time or even maybe how long it'll take would be great. Thanks guys.

Sorry to here about your mum and my condolences to you and your family take care buddy .

As for the batteries I would just knock of fully charge lipo as long as it is above 3.7 to 3.9 volts per cell you should be Right for storage .

This is how I I see it never store a fully charged battery and never store a low voltage and you should be ok so you can do what needs to be done mate .

Kiaser is right..... I have lipos sitting for months on end without discharging them and they are fine. If you are worry you can always stick a low voltage warning plug on them. I wouldn't worry about them for couple of weeks.

Thanks guys. The Traxxas lipo I have doesn't have a seperate balance port its built into the plug so no way to hook up an alarm nor to tell what either cell is at charge wise. We just got home from the funeral home so I'm taking a break, a little "me time" by taking my KT to the park for a drive. I figure this will help discharge the lipo batteries and re-charge my batteries after dealing with the whole mess of the funeral, I need a break.

BTW funerals are EXPENSIVE! But its my mom and I won't have another one so what the hell may as well do it up right for her.

Leaving lipos charged over a long period of time may reduce the total number of cycles. It's also worth checking what voltage they should be left at as all the types of batteries I've picked up say something a little different.

First of all, I am sorry for the passing of your Mother, Jack, You don't need me or anyone else to tell you how difficult the next months will be. A lot of us have been there and it is painful, God bless my friend.
Batteries, the time is long overdue when a bona fide expert wrote about these essentials.
The pro's and the con's of all types of battery. chargers and charging, safe storage, when to discharge and the best way to charge different batteries, and we would all benefit from knowing where the best deals on batteries and their ancillaries can be found, so all we need now is an expert? shaun

Most chargers discharge very very slowly at way less than an amp. Yours is a big Lipo so will take a long time. I wouldn't worry about keeping it charged though.
