Electronics Comparison?

Post by atcttge »

Hi guys. I'm still new to this hobby and I am looking to upgrade the electronics of my HL Leo2 in the future. I've read Elmod this, Clark that, IBU, and even a Taigen, Benedinni (sp?) and others. Info on these are scattered and it is difficult to make direct comparisons with each of these electronics. I was thinking you guys maybe can help me out with these electronics so I know where to spend my hard earned coin? Comparisons such as which ones come as a complete package with controller/transmitter already, or those with none, which are the cheapest to the most expensive, features, ease-of-installation (from plug-and-play to still-needs-a-Sony-remote-to-program), etc etc etc.

Looking forward to your posts and thank you all in advance. :)

For the best balance of function/ features and cost I would recommend the IBU2, I use this in my leopard 2a6, also 3:1 gearboxes and jp 480 motors for a bit of speed! Although if you want to go all out and have options for everything elmod is the way to go but it costs!

Tankbear: thanks for digging that thread up. I was perusing the RC Tank Electronics site and the IBU2 Pro package seemed like the best bang-for-buck. I like the idea of changing the sound files as I know where I can probably get more realistic sounds for the Leo2 and M1 (assuming the developers allow me).

I was thinking of Clark before but reading all those instructions to install got me "terrified" especially when my soldering skills aren't that good. I'm interested in the TK60 that's supposed to come but that Sony remote thing is another issue for me.

Elmod seems fantastic but pricey.

Is it possible to detail this in a table where the various electronics are listed in the vertical axis while the features are in the horizontal axis and then these are checked for each electronics package on what it has it doesn't have? I think I'm asking too much but gathering all that info which I do not understand is beyond my comprehension (plus I might end up making mistakes in doing so as I'm a newbie).

Currently I'm very much interested in the IBU2 Pro package and might order one later in the year or next year.

Other factors you might want to consider is manufacturer support, online support and peer support. Unfortunately from what I can tell it is quite regionalized due to manufacturer from different parts of the world. Don't know where Elmod is based, but IBU is from Italy/Europe, Clark is from Taiwan, MAKO/RC2HL is from Australia, SLU I thought was from Canada (???) but now I think Carson from DKLM in Hong Kong might be picking that up and if he does it will be great as he is good to deal with. Tankbear provides great post sale support for IBU as everyone knows. Kevin from RCTA will do the same. I had some dealing with Clark and he seems pretty responsive but I never had to deal with him the same way I saw Tankbear on the forum or Kevin from RCTA. If other tankers in your local gravitates towards one brand it might be wise to follow suit as it is always best to have some peer support regardless of how great the manufacturer/post sales supports are.

The comparison table is a good idea, although I think it needs to be done as a group input that way the information is more unbiased to any one system. And maybe the admin could make it a sticky for easy reference.

Aye. A sticky thread with that table would be good for the newbies like me. :)

Yes, I've seen the reviews for Tankbear's support which is a point for the IBU2.

Alas, where I come from (Philippines) the RC tank scene is non-existent. And I have to get all these stuff from online making it expensive, hence my constant "nagging" for info so I know how to properly spend my money. :)
