Post by Rocketman »

One of the guys on the UKTC just pointed me to monkey depot in teh states. Apparently they are having a sale. Well I want a 1/18 M60 ( as does crispoid) so imagine my delight when I see they are down to $19.99 in the sale, buy two or more and they go down to $14.99. WHOOOPEE. Well i goes in happy as a lamb and order four, get to the checkout and get shot right down when I see dleivery is at the cheapest option over $150!

Not a happy camper....... ::)

P&P to the UK is always expensive because of the consumer protection we have (ie if it's wrong or faulty then the buyer should not have to pay to return it) so a lot of sellers need to cover themselves.

I never order from the States anymore as there are waaayyy too many risks,
1: Even if you pay for insured/signed for/guaranteed postage, it's only actually covered to the point where it leaves the States, after that it's nothing to do with them.
2: It takes FOREVER, i bought my Limited edition Lambo from the States, it cost me $65 and it cost the kid $39 to ship it here and it took 9 WEEKS to get here, and that was airmail!
3: If your really unlucky the sender won't send it as a gift, then the VAT slams you at the door, and if you won't pay it, they won't give you it  :'(
4: And to top it all off, if there are any problems, you either have to lump it, or go through the rigmorall of sending it back and waiting FOREVER to get the situation sorted :-X
I tend to stick to either UK, Germany or Hong Kong, there is a guy on ebay i use for Mini Z in Hong Kong, and he gets post here faster than most people in the UK! And this one guy i bought an inflatable Kayak from in Germany, i bought it at 9pm on Tuesday night and it was at my door by 2pm the next day, and that weighed 25kg! Impressive or what?

when I buy stuff from RCCOMMAND it normally takes 5 days to reach me and I thought that wasn't too bad same with stuff from germany it normally takes 3 to 5 days to get to my front door

LAst year, when I bought me Kyosho Blizzard from HK it took 4 days to get too me ordered it at 9am on a monday and it was delivered at 11am on the Thursday and no customs hassle either.

Rocket the £pound is so bad at the moment because of the unrealistic interest rate cuts each time the interest is cut the £pound plummets, the rate cuts are a poor attempt to save our economy that has been destroyed by greedy bankers and flash Gordon.

Any how I have ordered from Monkey depot many times they usually are reasonably quick for the US and tend to put "used toys" on the import paperwork I haven't been stung for import duty though I think Cloughie has

The one thing I will say about all of the dealers that I have dealt with in the States is that they provide exceptional customer service. Nothing is too much trouble for the good guys, and that covers RC helicopters, trucks and tanks. They also speak English? Ordering from the East is more of a 'Hope I am lucky' adventure.

Postage times are a problem, but if its the only place to get something, I don't mind the wait.

Monkey Depot http://www.monkeydepot.com/ I have to say I have never had a problem with any of the Guys from Honkers they have even got stuff they don't normally supply and I have had stuff within 3-5 days and never been stung for import duty stuff that I have had from the US is usually 2 weeks + and have been hit on import duty a few times once through an idiot declaring $50 worth of kit as over $100 postage from Canada is even worse and very expensive, but if you do a survey every one will have there own horror stories
