old tamiya king tiger

Post by mikef350 »

Hi all

I am tempted with buying a old clutch type tamiya king tiger tank which has a few detail parts missing.

So would i be able to fit modern gearbox and dmd unit with no problems or is it not worth the hassle?and can parts still be bought for this model

thanks in advance

Yes you can but the older models don't have quite as good a tolerances as the newer edition. For instance the wheels have one bushing and wobble allot, the gun is not held on by the same mechanism etc. Check out my thread Static to FO. It's essentially the same components as a an old version KT.

No, no Tamiya kit does. The ones I have on mine are the Impact standard KT tracks.

Looks in good condition though

You can definitely do this on the cheap. Put some Taigan/HL motors in it and Taigan electrics, build your own recoil housing. It's just a bit more work. If you want recoil you'll need to buy a barrel extension though. These can be bought from Welsh Dragon or axels-modellbau-shop.de

Yes, you can get them all separately. I'd probably go with the Taigan ones though.
