brushes and applicaters

well gents looking for some advice
im only used to air brushing never used a paint brush for my car body kits
so i moving to to building 1/16 scale and looking for some advive on brushes for fine detil work to finish off and to weather model
anyone got any suggestion as to what brush are a good option to purchase and also where to purchase as there are limited resources in my area
any help much appricated

Ebay will be your best friend for brushes and the like. emodels and snmstuff are both pretty good UK suppliers. You'll need a selection of a few depending on the tasks you want to perform. Don't buy cheap random kits of ebay though, some are terrible quality and the hairs come out constantly and are only good for the bin.

Wide flat brushes are good for general painting but also wear and weathering effects like oil dot streaks, rain marks etc. A big wide flat brush is also good for a nice clean filter layer. I found it's good to get a few different sizes to give you options.
Round brushes are good for general work and you may want a few different sizes from 5/0 (for chipping) and up. Depends on what detail you're attempting. For chipping you want a small brush but there's alternative methods which don't require any brush work.

I've tried quite a few brands of brushes and pretty much just use these now: http://ak-interactive.com/v2/?product_cat=brushes. They last really well and keep their shape.
Mig (http://migproductionswebshop.com/index.php?cPath=25_37) also do some nice brushes. I'd also stay away from brush painting with Tamiya paints - stick them in an airbrush only, AK, Ammo and Vallejo make very nice brush paints.

I'm personally undecided on AK acrylics but the enamels are good. I'm so far impressed with Ammo paints though. Vallejo also make nice brush paints. Out of an airbrush Tamiya is still a good bet for acrylics.

FoxHunter KMS Airbrush Kit AS186 AS 186 with Compressor with Tank with 2 x Double Action Airbrushes and Hose

any body use a different type of compressor

also any recommendations for air brush other than those i have Super-fine Dual Action Airbrushes

Jamie Hi, If you go to TIPs & TRICKs and CLICK on PAINTING and WEATHERING you will find 3 sub pages with lots of colour chart comparisons although at least one link no longer works. A very good source which I recommend. shaun

I don't think there is a chart with AK and Ammo, Mig on it as well as the others. Ammo at least calls it's paints by the real names so their Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 or 4B0 Green is called just that.
