Lipo & water proofing

Post by hawaii »

Hi guys new to the forum. Just bought a Taigen T-34 and was wondering how to water/dust/dirt proof the switches on the bottom of the chassis?. I was thinking some duct tape?..
Also would like to find a 7.2v 5000mah lipo that would fit in the small area they give you.
Would love to have a direct link to that battery if you have one!
Thank you for the kind advice

It's quite hard to make them actually water tight because there's so many small gaps, between battery boxes, where parts fit together, the arms for the suspension etc. What is a good solution is to build a plastic card box to go inside the tank itself that sits above the torsion bars which the electronics and battery can sit in. This means if water does come through the suspension or other gaps, while it's in the tank is not going to touch the electrics.

Try a Traxxas 5800mah 2 cell lipo its the same size of a 7.2 volt battery thats what I went with, you will need to get a Traxxas smart charger but between the 2 its only about $100.

As for the switches you will need to relocate them to "higher ground". While you're doing this you may as well just cut the battery box out and then seal the floor to make it 1 solid piece and install the battery from inside the hull. Getting rid of that battery box opens up lots of room inside and then you can change how the battery fits in there.

If you look around you will find other guys who have done this to the same tank you have and you can use what they did to give you ideas.

Thanks to all who replied! Very helpful information. I have smart chargers from airsoft so that's good to go.

The Traxxas battery has the balance plug built into the main plug so no balance plug to be messed with. If you do use a different charger you'll need to get an adapter plug to connect between your charger and the Traxxas battery, the adapter is like $12.00 if I remember correctly.
