Have been cutting up the mantlet to make one more in line with Tiger 131 rather than the mid HL one

My brain is whispering " don't worrry, it will look fine when its done...you clutz!"

Also, a bit more filling and sanding and one last bit of filling to the mantlet

Does anyone have a contact for the Derek that makes the resin hatch catch arms? The moulded in ones at the back, where the middle one should be upside down!

Also had anyone made resin replicas for the 12 sided Feifel tubes? The Aber are straight rather than twisted and the Tamiya tubes I brought are nothing like the real thing...bizzare.

ABE Hi, I see you are still doing a disgracefully great job.
NOW, Feifel Air Cleaners. I built an early Tiger 1 over a year ago and it was mostly accurate BUT every time I looked at it I was annoyed that the air cleaners were of the later one piece (I could not find early one's),
After a lot of looking I discovered with the aid of members of this Forum (TFTM) that the TAMIYA static Desert Tiger 1 had them and that they were to be found on the Desert Tiger (STATIC) "K" sprue,
I searched the web and AXELS had "K" sprues on his site, 6 month waiting list DOHHH, I sent off for them anyway and by the end of the following week I had the "K" sprue, well done AXELS,
I then discovered that TAMIYA being the wily oriental gentlemen that they are, did not include all the air cleaner parts on one sprue, the four conical bases and the articulated connecting pipes between the air cleaners and the body mounted intake pipes are on another sprue!!! The connecting pipes are not a problem because the ones that come with the later pattern air cleaners from Heng Long/ Taigen/ Torro are identical and are a perfect fit BUT the four conical bases are a problem,
I gave in and made a mould out of Plaster of Paris and made my own using resin, so all is well and I can now walk past "813" knowing I have done my best! NO THERE WILL NOT BE PHOTOGRAPHS!!! well not yet :haha: shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Shaun, hey dude..hows it going?

Thanks for the tease...looking forward to some pics now...RIGHT NOW.

I am carving up the HL cleaners and adding the two sections above plus the bolts and nuts in hexagonal styrene. I am thinking of how to replicate the twelve sided tubes with the spiral twist..have a few ideas and it may take a few tries but I do have patience so should eventually get there....eventually (that reminds me of "They come mostly and night..mostly" ) And the movie is?

My main concern is the pipes which I will have to make my own

Image

Being honest...I am not one of these people that can engineer incredible precision work like SOV's Tiger with real micro nuts and bolts!..I tend to bodge my way with a lot of work to get there in the end :haha: With my Tiger...any mistakes can be covered in mud :haha:

Abe, I have avoided submitting pictures to the Forum so far and unless there is quality bribery about it could yet be some while before I do.
Now to the four Dodecagon (12 sided) pipes,
I am just floating this as a thought and will listen out for the laughing and pointing fingers,
A balsa rod slightly oversize x 20cms long, and those drinking straws with the bending section (these I know come in various lengths). Shape the balsa rod into 12 sides x 5 cm then slice the bendy section of the straw into 5cm lengths and glue them in place,It will probably take two straws per section of rod. you should now have the right shape and the correct pattern, of course they will need painting but I should'nt think it would take long to make and it would cost pennies.
You can start laughing now. :haha: shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Two things:

Jarndice, if you had asked me I could have supplied you with those missing Tamiya parts!

Glad you managed to do things the hard way, but there's a rule on this forum - if you say things like "I gave in and made a mould out of Plaster of Paris and made my own using resin..." then YOU HAVE TO POST PICTURES! @)

It's a bit like anglers and fish I guess (not that I don't believe you!)

Abe, I think I see where you are coming from with the Aber tubes - thy don't twist in a spiral right? Is that really going to matter? Forgive me for saying so - bearing in mind some of my own detailing obsessions - but I really don't think any of us are going to worry about that. I'm not even sure you will notice once the whole thing is finished...

Having said that I haven't actually seen the Aber Feifel tubes, although they seem like a huge improvement on both the HL and Tamiya versions. I recall our resident Tiger expert David Byrden posting on them a while back. David what do you think?
