HL MOTOR upgrade options

Post by puramo »

Hello again tankers,

thanks as always for your various input I have now put a good few hours on my T-34 and I'm still painting it :D

I have the 2.4G version (the old 2.4G I think it is) I believe the motors are 280

battery run time (using the HL 1700Mah Nicd is almost an hour) is very long
and I was wondering what are the most powerful motors the board will safely take

I am going to install some heat sink paste and a very small heat sink, (will help a bit) but don't want to overload it

sorry in advance if someone has covered this in another thread
BC: I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?

Motors are 380 speed in the heng longs.

As long as motor is rated at 5a or less you should be fine, although if you go upto 480 speed motors the shaft diameter increases so probably won't be easy swap. If you stick with 2.3mm diameter shafts you can use same gear.

Tankbear thanks

so 5a or under and if I change motors depending on brand I may have to get another gear to fit the different diameter shaft - think I've got it there. If I'm not mistaken the HL gearbox as standard take a 48pitch gear is that right?

Yes 5A or less is okay so most speed 400 motors are fine and a small number of speed 480 motors are okay. Also consider speed 480 motors are longer and might not fit in your T34.

48Pitch sounds correct, but when I tried finding and trying any their did not mesh together properly so made a lot of screaming noise. Easier route to buy a pinion gear puller and using the existing on the new motor.

Also don’t forget to run new motors in to get the best performance out of them.

Anything less then this is just unacceptable! All tanks should be like this guy built his Tiger. I expect to see yours doing the same thing.

Haha, not for me. If I had motors that quick I would want it geared right down so it can climb. If I want speed, I would take the rc car out
