Asiatan T-34 lower hull

Post by CHIEFSONN »

While working on my newly purchased Aisatam T-34 lower hull.while installing the metal wheels with bearings after filing a flat on the axle for the 3 mm Allen set screw that holds it in place I noticed that the suspension arm had a good amount of sloop between the body of the hull and where the suspension arm is connected, I then removed the wheel from the suspension arm and then removed the suspension arm, Asiatam had installed a flat washer that does not fit. that washer was removed and replaced with a # 6 flat washer. I also installed installed the same washers between the pin and the body that is attached to the suspension spring which will keep the suspension arm from angling inward and keeping the wheels in line with each other and prevent the wheels from rubbing against each other as i had found out when installing the wheels. I hope this will help.

CHIEFSONN....... Good tip I will have to check mine, just curious how you find out, Is it because of the wheels rubbing ? So if mine is not that I am okay. Just want to see if I have the symptoms. Mine is running fine out of the box since I got it and I can't remember whether I install the arms or not myself.

Yes when installing the wheels I had noticed two things that I was not happy with. One being that I would have had at least two wheels one on each side rubbing against each other. after removing the wheel and suspension arm from the chassis I noticed the amount of slop each suspension arm had from having the wrong size flat washer installed when I re installed them . by removing the incorrect washer and installing a # 6 flat washer it allowed the suspension arm to sit flush against the chassis. and while doing this I thought if I were to install the same size # 6 or smaller flat washer I would have and fix the second problem I encountered, which was to stop the suspension arm from being pulled into the side of the chassis and thus keeping all the wheels in line. when I remove the suspension for priming and painting I will test a smaller washer that will replace the one I had installed on the pin between the suspension arm and the spring. hope this answers your question.

While I was installing the new wheels with bearings and attaching them to the suspension arms on there axial that I had just given each a flat spot for the grub screw to sit flush against I had noticed that there were two wheel that were rubbing against each other preventing the other wheel to turn freely. this was also true with the other side. so I then removed the grub screw and axle, and each suspension arm to the two wheels that were rubbing against each other. my first thought was the hole in the side of the body to install the suspension arm in place was not drilled correctly. but when the suspension arm was placed in another spot and I hand the same results wheel being pulled in I further inspection and noticed the pin that is installed into the spring /shock was bent and pulling the wheel in on an angle. but I had noticed this with only one of the two suspension arms. it was then that when holding the suspension arm with the screw that attaches to the body that is inserted into the suspension arm I had noticed that the washer installed at the factory did not slide up over the screw and sit flush against the backing of the suspension arm. thus keeping the arm further away from the body. so to prevent the wheel from being pulled into and against the body I would placed a flat washer 4 mm x 8 mm that fit perfectly onto the pin and overlapped the channel and prevent the fwd. section of the suspension arm from being pull inward into the body, fitting it to suspension arm mount also was a perfect fit. hope this answered your question.
