Hi Tankbear, I suppose the initial comparison with heng long isn't really fair. I've managed to get the tank running with forward/back/spin/turn and managed to get the gun elevation working but I can't get the turret to turn. I've tested the turn motor by jumping straight to the battery and that works fine. According to my rx18 wiring diagram the black and red wires from the 8 pin connector should be the turret turn but that doesn't seem to work, am I missing something? Alwyn

Don't rely on the colours of the 8 wire connector, you can plug in either end and only one way is correct.

Thanks tankbear, I'll try the other wires and see what works (but maybe tomorrow), at least I've got the thing running and quite quickly too so I think I'm ahead so far! :thumbup:

Alwyn,
I had one of these for years. It was the first large scale RC tank I owned. It was a ton of fun ( to be truthful, it wasn't that sparse inside so I guess they got cheaper as time went by ) and I really enjoyed it for what it was until HL brought out their first Tiger1. The tracks eventually went and Tankbear got me fixed up with another set. A friend who was really down needed a hobby recently so he got it with a directive to fix the turret rotation gear ( and how to do it ). What Tankbear has done with these tanks is pretty amazing! so you are in good hands to get yours to a higher level. ;o)
regards,
Painless

Hi guys, do I feel a twit, the 8 pin plug and cables I was using were scavenged, and the wires were the wrong way round! (pin 1 = pin 8 ) :{ :{ :{
Anyway the turret rotation and gun elevate are now working so the next step is to convert my jury rig into something that is neat and tidy, and then I'll open up the turret and see what the rest of the wires connect to. So far so much better than expected. Alwyn :thumbup:

Ok things are going really well and I have a tank that runs and the turret turns and the main gun elevates as required, I've also found the wires for the main gun recoil but I'm battling to decipher where I should connect these to. Here's the rx18 wiring diagram I'm using:
Image
Should I wire the recoil positive to the green plus marked position on the hull 8 pin connector and wire the negative to where? - maybe the yellow wire on the hull 8 pin connector? Anyone familiar with this issue please? ??? :crazy:

You need to connect to the yellow and brown from the rx18

Hi Tankbear, I tried that, connected the white positive lead from the recoil to the brown connection on the hull connector and the brown lead from the recoil to the yellow connection on the hull connector but it isn't recoiling (tried it the other way round as well and still not working). The recoil works if I connect to the power lead from the battery so it's not the recoil mechanism, I must be connecting wrong somehow. Any suggestions please?
