Heng Long King Tiger
Re: Heng Long King Tiger
It's hard to get real good with the brush when you're painting tanks that are less than 2" long!!!! Plus most of what I do is US so straight olive drab. Nothing like what you guys are doing here with the camo jobs. I can't wait to give it a try though. I have another question about the battery thing. I went to Hobby King and I'm confused on the S and C ratings??? I saw the Turnigy ones but there is a few different 5000mah. Which should I be buying and same thing with the Eco6??? Just want to make sure I'm getting the right thing. Thanks again and great work on the IV.

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Well the c rating is the maximum discharge rate in amps so a battery rated at 20c would be damaged if say a motor draws more than 20 amps, as we use tanks they are relativity slow so don't draw many amps so 20c or above should be fine ( I use 20c lipo's) the S rating is the number of cells in a battery, a single lipo cell produces on average 3.7 volts, a heng long tank requires 7.2 v or a little more so you need a 2s battery i.e. 2 cells making 7.4v, going further a 3s lipo would produce 11.1v as it has 3 cells and so on and so forth, as for the charger just search for ' hobby king ECO6 charger' I got mine off ebay you may need a power supply (transformer) as some come with one others don't do check the ad / listing, also check out videos about lipo's in youtube as it will give you the basics on what to do and not hope that helps dude

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Thanks again. Makes sense now. I'll get them both coming so I can get my KT running again.
Re: Heng Long King Tiger
OK Tank82 I tore the KT apart last night, I was a little shaky but your help made it easy. Thanks again. Fixed the smoker unit (I think I had half a bottle in there!!!!) Now I'm waiting for the new lipo's and charger to check the reverse problem. My factory HL battery was very low on my buddies charger so I'm charging it up as we speak and will check it tonight and hopefully it will fix the problem until the lipos arrive.
Next question: Mato Mart... the forum doesn't have any current ratings on them and you talked me into another German tank!!!! Plus they are out of Shermans. They have a HL Jagdpather super version all upgrades BB for US $179. What do you think?? I'm into the heavy tanks and thought this might be a good 2nd tank that I might even try out the airbrush on. Thanks again

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Alright dude, well mato mart has been mentioned a few times on the forum and I have only heard good things about them, although I have no personal experience with them as am in the UK, jagdpanther is a good tank destroyer, I love the panther though! Good thing with the jagdpanther is no turret traverse to worry about so more room inside for extras like bigger speaker etc and plenty to mod on them so I would go for it! Good luck with the airbrush too, you tube is a good source for airbrushing tips, that and practice! Let us know if a fully charged battery gives your reverse problems the boot if not we will find the culprit in the end! Good luck dude

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Hello WWIInut, spongehoobtank 82 has given you good advice. I can't stress enough the correct charger for lipo batteries and the lipo alarms. I wouldn't run a lipo in an rc tank without one. As far as battery connections, I like the deans plugs. They are smaller and make a better connection than the Tamiya connectors do in my opinion because they offer less resistance. They're not hard to solder to the tank or the battery, just another expense is all. Good luck and I hope you get your running problems sorted out.

Thanks Joe. I've been looking on line for the lipos and charger and see that most have different ends so I'll just get them all the same. Soldering is not a problem. Is the alarm an inline plug from the battery to the tank??? I got my HL battery fully charged and tested it last night. The tank stalls (the light then flashes) anytime I try reverse, RR or RL. It does the same when I fire the cannon either from the K button or the joystick??? Everything else works fine. I noticed that at times the superspin will kick in but mostly the tank shuts off if I try any type of reverse??? Is it possible that the controller is bad??? or would it be something in the control box (RX-18)??? What would be the best way to diagnose what is going on without starting to replace part by part and having to buy another controller??? Thanks again guys, I appreciate the advice

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Good morning WWIInut, a lipo battery has a balancing plug along with the charging and power plug. When charging a lipo battery, you plug the balancing plug into the balancing port of your charger. When you plug a lipo into your tank, you plug the lipo alarm into the balancing plug on the battery. Here is a photo of the alarm. If you look closely, you will see the tiny pins coming from the lipo alarm and these get plugged into the balancing plug as I have said. The lipo alarm has many pins so you can plug it into a 2,3,or 4 cell lipo. Don't use anything other than a 2 cell lipo in your tank.WWIInut wrote:Thanks Joe. Unfortunately, I think your RX-18 may be defective due to the multiple problems your tank is presenting. I would contact your seller and see if they will replace it.

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Thanks Joe. Unfortunately I got the tank as a gift so I don't know the seller. (next time I see the people who gave it to me I'm gonna slap em!!!!) Got any ideas of who I can get one from here in the states??? On a different note: I came across an old (10 years or more) Tamiya Tiger kit. brand new in the box never opened. I cut a deal for $200. and will pick it up this weekend. Can't wait to start on it. I'm sure I'll be way deeper by the time I'm done with it.

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
WW11 Nut Hi, I know you have already done this but please make sure your connection is GOOD, and that the plug is in the right way round, we have all been there.
If you get a decent charger it will come not only with LI.PO but NI.CD and NI.MH.
As someone who spends too much time building and flying 1/10 r/c scale a/c I learnt that getting ADAPTORS for my batteries was the way to go, this way I can buy batteries by price and specification rather than whether it will fit my esc.Take it from someone who has a box full of adaptors that will fit every battery out there.

I think I am about to upset someone
