Waltersons gearbox pivoting final drive

Post by Tankalot »

Dear fellow tankers
Just want ask if anyone else has installed waltersons gearboxes in there tiger tanks, im not greatly impressed with the final drive, the shafts are not centre, they spin at an angle causing the drive sprockets to up and down, like they are bent.
For the cost this is a bit naff, might get the way cheaper taigen 4/1 boxes

Anyone else found this??

Sounds like they've been badly machined. Send them back. The Taigan black steel boxes now come with bearings and are generally pretty good.

I agree with billpe, I've had good luck with Taigens black steel gear boxes. I'f your tank is mostly metal, I would suggest the 4:1 gears.

Thanks
I've checked the way I've fitted them, and it is per instruction, I got them from tankzone, so I might give kin an email, maybe I just got a runt pair!

Not heard back yet, could this be the first time I have a problem with tankzone? He's normally been fine.

Just heard from Kin
He's going to replace them for me, I didn't think he'd let me down, always been fine!
And no, I'm not his next door neighbour!

Just got new boxes, there fine, and kin gave me 2 spare shafts for free.
But one problem, it's missing a c clip on the final drive shaft, so before I fit them I'll get a replacment, or I'll crack the Bearing spacer as it rubs the case.

So all in all in still not greatly impressed with them, there's silly mistakes with them.
I've got some asiatam 5:1 boxes coming, so I'll compare them for workmanship, I have a feeling waltersons is vanishing from the market.
