IBU2 vs ThinkTankPro El-Mod ???

Post by puramo »

Hello again,

I am very very new to RC tanks :S and still very green ;D the DMD units and the MF units, recoil, multi channel Tx etc.

Would anyone like to do a sort of 'shootout'  between the IBU2 8) and the ThinkTankPro 8) , HL and Tamiya (DMD + MF) to explain the pros and cons the possibilities the problems :problem: , bang for your buck etc...

I have been toying with the idea o- of rebuilding an old Tamiya or a HL (especially the HL as people just about give them away where I am). I know that the little Tamiya 1/35 2.4Ghz 4MC unit can support 2x 280 motors but I don't have a clue about what the 1/16 scale electronics can support (I have seen a couple of fan mounted units)

I certainly have a penchant for quality and reliability, ease of use and forum support

thanks for your imput and guidance as always, fantastic forum  full of very talented people
(PS I posted here as it seemed better than just in the El-Mod section, sorry if this is not a good place)
BC: I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?

 hi there, i have had the tamiya in both my kt and tiger1 and leopard. when i got my first tamiya kt i thought it was the mutts nuts not knowing many tank sounds before so for years i kept the mfu and dmd in all my tanks. then i came across tankbear aka ian on here with the ibu board and i thought why not give it a go. as soon as i heard the sounds on this i was amazed so many new sounds which brought so much more out of my tanks, i had so much help from ian setting this up and run it in my kt and was very happy if im honest the ibu offers much better sounds than tamiya and is cheaper with online help with ian.i hope this helps you with your decision and i have just brought another ibu from ian with the sound upgrade to fit in a tiger1 i am building.

What did you have to change in your Tamiya wiring to fit it? Did it all work out of the box? I'm still considering either Elmod or IBU2 but have little desire to start chopping and changing cabling or motors.

 hi billpe, all that was changed was the gun elevation motor wire into a five pin connector and a taigen gun flash and bullet connectors on the motor wires from the board and that was it.

Ian thanks
I look at your site quite a bit and keep trying to work out exactly what I can and can't do with these diff boards. Must say the IBU2 looks very impressive and flexible
Thanks Ruben too for your input
It's kinda difficult because an FO Tamiya kit could be picked up at a decent price, especially a used one, and old Tams are not always that cheap so another 100 or so for a board and you still need to buy your turret motors etc etc,
so even tho' I'd like to build my own it still doesn't seem to work out a whole lot cheaper (unless of course you have one board that you move to multiple tanks, but I wont't be doing that)

yep I agree I've watched videos and listened to the sounds, being programmeable makes it fantastic

there is still no deal breaker for me yet. I can see the IBU2 making more sense in a HL.....
