Thank you all

Post by mickyb »

Yesterday I asked for help and the response was brilliant. You gave me spot on advice on the PZ4 m/gun and some help with connectivity for the upgrade front armour mounted m/gun. After tracing the wiring, I connected the gun across pins 1 and 3 of the multiconnector and it functions perfectly.

Now that the tank is running properly, I have run it alongside the PZ3 and find that it is about 1/2 as fast again, it also tends to spin on the spot when turning. I am considering 3:1 ratio gearboxes for it as it is a bit too nippy for my liking.

Do 3:1 gearboxes really slow the tank down to 1/3 of its speed?

I understand that I shouldnt swap to 3:1 gearboxes when using el-mod cos el=mod is set for standard gearboxes. Does el-mod slow the tiger down a bit, or should I considder something else for the Tiger. I am thinking that as the Tiger is now a lot heavier that original spec and weight that the gearing or motors should be swapped for a bit more grunt.

Thanks for all your help lads.....and remember my growing pile of basic spec parts if you are in trouble.

Mike, you can learn a lot about the hobby of tanking all you have to do is ask a seemingly "stupid question" and before you know it you have several different ideas as to sort out the problem that lead to the "stupid question"

no question from any member is ever stupid or foolish. they may have been asked loads of times before, but they are never Stupid, also people if they them selves cannot answer the questions asked, will point the person asking questions on faults to other parts of the site or even other forums where there may be an answer

Hi Mike,

If you use the old El-Mod system, Booster will cut motor voltage to 5,5 Volt at Tiger settings. But if you use Pershing settings Booster will deliver 7,2 Volt, the only drawback is that the turret traverse speed is to high.

The new El-Mod Booster has pre settings for 3:1 gearboxes

From:http://www.el-mod.de/product_info.php?c ... 0f77b3ea37

"seven presetted tank profiles and a user defined profile (requires the ThinkTank Configurator)
german WW2 tank with plastic gearbox.
german WW2 tank with reduced metal gearbox.
german WW2 tank with 3:1 metal gearbox and Jamara motors.
US WW2 tank with plastic gearbox.
US WW2 tank with reduced metal gearbox"

Iam using old El-Mod system, 3:1 gearboxes and 480 motors with a 4,5 kg Tiger, tested "all" other combinations but this one is a keeper

Regards

Jake

A useful "mantra" is "the only stupid question, is the one that hasn't been asked". My experience of forums is that in the main, people are always friendly and willing to help, even when it is your first day on a forum! And this place is no different.
