Nice looking Leopard, can you show how the electrics are mounted into the turret?

I've heard they are in there rather than the main body, is this the case?

The wheel bearings should definitely be in the kit but I had no issues with the plastic road wheels on the Leo. The detailing is excellent and metal wheels only offer increased weight. The lack of MG really bothered me though and the two siren lights at the front being molded plastic as well.

How do the metal tracks work out for you? I've got the plastic ones on mine and was considering buying the metal idler wheel with a rubber rim and getting some metal tracks. Have your return rollers worked ok with them or did you replace those?

It almost doesn't fit if you also add in the TBU mounting plate under the roof.

Is there any advantage to having all that stuff in the turret as opposed to the hull? Does it do any harm to the turret drive mechanism or anything?

Sorry, slight thread highjack but you asked. There isn't much space inside.

The back end is take up by the large gearbox housing (the Tamiya Leo2 gearbox is a sight to behold!), the centre section is taken up with the speaker box and housing which also forms part of the central hull and reinforces the mountings for the top of the hull and bearing housing for the turret rotation.



The front quarter is relatively empty but not large enough to fit much inside of it. The turret is as the most unused space. To give an impression of just how big the turret is:

EVERYONE with an A6 mentions the BTU Mounting Plate.
At the time, 2 years ago, I was not going to add / use a 'Mushroom'.
Had no one to "Play War" with.

And yes, another thing I forgot on the List, the Receiver Unit should have been in the "Fully Optioned" kit.
Anyway, as well as not fitting that bracket, I also Dremmel off the support pillars, (hope I don't ever want to fit the bracket back ).
Anyway bill, HOW did you get the "lid on" with the BTU bracket fitted.....

It was hard. In fact I hate taking the top off to get the battery out because i'm never sure if it will go back on. I had to repack the cables several times.

Yes, all airbrushed. There is a build log here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=13359. It's the standard Bundeswehr scheme. I should have used stencils or masking because it's soft edge and these tanks are hard edge but the weather covers up that mistake.

Do you use a IR Receiver unit, if not, I would at least remove the TBU bracket, ( and "maybe" the pillars )like I did.

Yes, it's got the TBU base installed and the emitter in the laser emitter housing on top of the gun. I hope the type 10 also has this design rather than having to place it on the barrel like on the other tanks.

Anyway, the bottom line is, until you have "assembled" a Tamiya RC tank, you do not know the Joys of RC Tanking.
Though their earlier produced Tanks are not as good as the A6, and this Japanese Type 10 should be even better technically.

Disagree with you somewhat on that point I have just got my first rc tank a Tiger 1 late model and I'm full of the joys of tanking! Besides I couldn't afford a tamiya I personally don't think there worth the extra money. Nice tank though Wayne.
