T34 v Tiger PC Game

Post by wibblywobbly »

I only got this yesterday, so I am still grappling with the controls. How on earth the WW2 tank crews managed to hit anything, or avoid being clobbered is beyond me.  :o

This is one heck of a 'game', and really brings it home about what life inside of a Tiger was like. Selecting and firing at a target is well nigh impossible while it's moving, and the second you stop you are a target for anything else, seen or unseen.

This is a great tank sim, does anyone else have it?

I've got this (via flea-bay) and it is a bit of a handful! What I have noticed are the sounds; by this I mean you have the sound of an 88 being loaded, fired and casing ejected, all on the disc as WAV files. I don't know how accurate they are, but those of you with the capability to add sound to a card (elmod?) they might make a change...

Just a thought...

;D

Thats exactly what I did. So far I have the barrel up/down, turret rotation, and cold start/warm start engine sounds. They are all much better than the Elmod ones. Just to be a clever clogs I also took the commanders voice and added it to the turret rotation sounds, so as the turret rotates he is shouting firing commands. When the gun fires he shouts to reload, and 9 seconds later the gunner clunks the breech shut and shouts 'loaded'. When I do a cold start I have battlefield sounds, and mixed the cold start into them. When the battle system is in use, it makes an incoming missile sound followed by an explosion, and when killed it plays the same sound followed by the 'Last Post'. When it comes back to life it plays the theme music from the game, followed by the warm start, followed by the gunner shouting 'loaded'. The gun sound is now a very loud firing sound which tails off with the sound of a shell streaking away into the distance and exploding.

The led's on my Tiger are under the turret, so when it gets hit the underside of the turret lights up, and I have red led's permanently lighting up the exhausts.  The battle system is invisibly built into the commanders hatch and pistol port. I also have a high intensity muzzle flash and led machine gun too.

It all adds to the fun, and it makes a Tamiya look like an expensive toy tank!  ;D I will put a video on You Tube once I have fitted my new hull/480 motors/metal road wheels and got it all running again.

Have you tried the online T34 v Tiger yet? I haven't figured that out at all!

Cheers

;D

Just to help you out (though it depends which way you came in.. lol) there are a couple of forums for the game, best is the Lighthouse site:

There is a another thing called Gameranger where people can set up an online game and invite people to join in...though as to how anyone actually achieves that is totally beyond me.  ???

I've had the demo for months and it's a blast!  Nice to know the full version has been released, been looking forward to driving something other then the T34 over the same battlefield and fighting 2 PZIVs!

Well I opened Gameranger tonight, and saw someone was running TvT, I didn't have a clue what to do, so I tried various things and nothing worked, I couldn't join the game. It seems two others were having problems as the host shut the game down.

Not to be beaten, I decided to figure out how to host a game, and join one.

1. Do NOT run TvT.
2. Open Gameranger http://www.gameranger.com/
3. All of the online TvT games that are running already are found at the bottom of the list. Around 8-10pm seems to be the fav time.
4. If one is running, click on it once and then click join. Ensure that there is a green dot next to the game listing, otherwise the host hasn't yet activated the server.
5. TvT will run automatically.
6. Select Multiplayer.
7. A complex looking screen will appear. It shou;d update to display GameRanger after a short while.
8. Check that your Gameranger name is at the top. Select Tiger or T34. Select a tank number.
9. Click on the Gameranger row.
10. Press F9. Numbers should appear at the top. Select Join. Numbers should appear at the side. If they don't then select Refresh and then Join again. It may take several attempts to get in. Once the game is running, press F9 to hide the numbers.
11. You will now be presented with the TvT screen as usual.
12. Unlike the single player mode, you don't see anyone else on the map. You have to find them before they find you.
13. If you want to host a game...it isn't scary!
14. Run Gameranger
15. Select Host
17. Type in an invitation line that will appear next to your name on the main list. Eg Novice here. Beginners welcome.
18. Then wait for someone to join, or just take a trip around the scenery.
19. It doesn't matter if you mess it up, you can't do any damage, and you see people playing around with it all the time!

The best games are the ones that are hosted in 'Expert' mode. This makes all operations manual, so no one can switch automatic gunner on and find enemy tanks using the 'radar'. I have had Tigers creep up behind my T34 and destroy me when I am not paying attention.

If you do get killed, your tank is resurrected and you rejoin the game. It goes on for a couple of hours some evenings, though each session is usually 30 minutes.

We need more UK tank commanders!! There are loads of Germans and Americans. The game is £23 off Amazon, and even though there are a few bugs in it, it is rated as the most realistic tank sim out there. Will you guys buy it?, you get to drive and operate the closest thing to a real Tiger or T34, and as the software is user configurable there are other tanks eg the Stug, being worked on by enthusiasts.

Cheers
