Joe,
That's a great mystery then as to why the only photo of 131 with crew shows no headlight bases and yet, no Tiger rolled out of the factory without said fittings installed. Oh to be a fly-on-the-wall at the port that day when 131 was lifted off of the cargo ship onto the dock.
regards,
Painless

I have read somewhere that the early Tiger headlights were able to be removed by the crew and stored in the tank until they where needed.

Knowing how hard pressed the German Army was for materials towards the end of the war, the possibility existed in my opinion. Thanks for the replies.

Joe
They were short of items like molybdenum and crude oil yet tank and aircraft production actually peaked in Germany in the last year. Unfortunately (well, for them anyway) people to man them were getting rarer and rarer and synthetic fuel wasn't produced in large enough quantities. Albert Speer's book on the topic is pretty interesting.

Tigers didn't get lifted off ships in Africa. They drove themselves off, usually small ferries.
