Re: Sherman coming together
Well I have found a howitzer on a website it was a full metal 1/15, price around £60, bit steep for a mod"" I think ..regards Ray..greengiant wrote:I've been looking for a US howitzer or at least something close in size or appearance for quite a few years now to do the same conversion. I think the only option is a scratch build.
I don't think the trailer they offer is the M10 but a lighter duty model that was more of a general purpose large trailer for hauling munitions to artillery units rather then being hauled by the tank type howitzers. I'll have to research that a little more.

Re: Sherman coming together
Yes, but that is what I've been waiting for is the 75mm cannon. But since he is still not selling them I guess I will continue to wait.
I see he is also try to modernize the old 21 century M48. Many many years ago I converted my 1/18 M48 to Run with remote control using parts from the earliest no suspension 1/16 Abrams ( I think they were 21st century toys back then ) It used the Abrams gearboxes for running but had turret traverse, no elevation or firing capability and of course no suspension. My electronic controls were taken out of my Lindbergh line PT boat as were the battery packs ( 7.2 volt NiCad 6 cell sticks ). That was actually my first tank build. I still have the radio and speed controllers sitting around somewhere as well as the tank which still has the 21 century gearboxes in it.
Yea God am I old. That was around 20 years ago.

Re: Sherman coming together
Me to, I think that Mattos success with its half track and Sherman And HL's Sherman would show that there is a lot of interest in the weapons and vehicles the allies used including self propelled artillery pieces and such mundane things as the deuce and a half and its variants in 1/16 scale rc. I also wish more of the websites that are in German would have a translator button to press. English is more or less the international trade language. I lived in what was then west Germany for 3 yrs and in most every place there was someone who spoke or understood some English. I can't speak for the former east Germany but my sister had a foreign exchange high school student for 2 yrs who was from a small town in what used to be east Germany and her English was perfect. That was over 6 yrs ago.

Re: Sherman coming together
Yes please do start a build thread. Please note that in the real world the 105 howitzer was never mounted in a half track as a production model. The 75 mm cannon was and actually served for a short time in the ETO before ww2 ended.
That is what you see in the movie Kelly's Hero's.
