Re: roll out the barrel
The Henchel turret will fit but you need to remove the ring on the deck. I am doing this swap as soon as the parts arrive from Forgebear.
I've been told the ring pops off and leaves only 3 small holes in the deck however I have not yet tried to remove the ring. The barrel on either version is all metal.

Like to say here ...
I could be wrong ...only ..the tamiya king tiger has a removable outer turret ring ..the hl version is moulded in place ..if you remove the hl ring you end up cutting a hole ...he size of the outer edge of the ring ...
Slight up date ..i know i am right .....have alook down this thread ...you can clearly see when the turret rotation ring is removed ..there is a bloody big grove
Where the outer ring is on the top of the hull
Sorry bud ..u need a tamiya king tiger hull top

Re: roll out the barrel
Hi mcevoyi..
This post seems to indicate that the 'raised ring' on the Porsche version CAN be removed without any problems.... to facilitate the use of the Henschel turret
viewtopic.php?f=195&t=14434&p=135470#p135470
.
Jackalope says.. " I know the turret ring needs to go and yes is is solid as there is no evidence of the ring from the underneath on the upper hull so sanding it off will work."
.
The OP is going to have to lift off the deck and look underneath to see if there is a "hole" around the raised section or not........ Perhaps its been changed on later models ??

Re: roll out the barrel
To be completely clear I am just waiting on the Henchel turret to arrive and I will be doing this swap. Regardless if the ring is molded to the deck or a separate piece the underneath of the upper deck shows no evidence of the ring. Meaning that if it pops off or needs to be sanded off either way it is doable. I haven't tried to remove the ring on mine as I still enjoy running it.
Re: roll out the barrel
It's not only the protection ring for the turret which is different between Porsche and Henschel Kingtiger. The rear upper deck must also get some changes...

Re: roll out the barrel
The only difference I see is the radiator covers (grills) or am I missing something else?
Re: roll out the barrel
Thanks for all the info guys,I'm gonna do a bit more research on it but have to admit that if it's too much work,I'll just detail the Porsche turret.
