Late Tiger 1 Hull Extensions

Post by FireflyKeith »

I am thinking about cutting the notches in my late Tiger 1 hull extensions to make it a bit more accurate and i stumbled across this pic while researching, it shows a late Tiger with only one of the extensions having a notch  ??? so do i do both or do i just do the one or is it personal choice, what do ya think  ::)

Is the top a notch or damage?

It looks different to the bottom pic. The pic quality isn't that good but it looks like the photo has been touched up.

The cut outs are also on some late Mid production Tigers and not all late Tiger had the cut outs the top picture is a very good example of what the purists say couldn't happen I know of only one other picture like this and that was a different late Tiger I, all that has happened during production is the two lower hull sides provided for the assembly line are of types one with cutouts the other without once the tank is assembled it will still work just the same just look a little odd.
The cutouts are for the ease of attachment of the towing shackles

i think woz is right, it looks like battle damage or a mark on the pic, this doesn't look cut, compare the two pics......

it does look like somebody went for the sprocket and missed, maybe riccocheted of the track and hit the lug?

Looks like the notches started in Jan 44, my Tiger has the steel road wheels that started in Feb 44 so im going with the notches and do both sides  ;D

I found this site many of you have probably used before and it lists the different modifications done to the Tiger and when they were first fitted, i dont know how accurate it is but hey im going with it  ;D ;D

I think you may be right OZ it does look like a piece has been blow away the other picture I have seen is definitely not but that one has the cutout on the right side only, will have to trawl through all my picture to find the damn thing
