380 to 540 aluminum motor adapter plate
Hey all,
I am going to design and machine an aluminum adapter plate to allow us to use 540 motors with Heng Long gearboxes. Anyone interested and would like a set? I will get a cheaper machining pricese if I order more. I will acad it first and post before production. You guys pay the cost of part plus whatever it cost to ship. I will design it in autocad and it will be water jet cut and machined at my work.
Interested or not? After I have an approximate quantity I will get a quote on price

Or you could drill a wider set of mount holes.....

Out of curiosity where are you based?

At 25mm center to center wider holes does not work. The 540 motor's diameter (36mm) will not clear the first reduction gear's bushing that sticks out of the gearbox frame slightly. I will drill a hole to allow this bushing to not interfere with the new mount, I will post my ACAD drawing.
Location is Toronto, Canada.
I am going to estimate it will be less than $10 for each bracket, I am hoping I can get each set to $10.00 each. Just estimate shipping through the Canada Post website and that will be the total cost.
I am working on the ACAD drawing as I am posting....
Cheers,
Chris

How does 540 motors compared to 400s or 480s size wise ? I am still not too sure what you are getting at Chris. Are you actually talking about the frame where the motor mounts onto ? Also, which HL gear set do you have in mind ?
If there is enough interest I am sure you can see a whole bunch of them to our "local" tank club, or at least I can pick them up from you in TO.
P.S. Interested in coming to our next meet at K/W ?

Michael,
I am in Kitchener right now actually. I used to live here lol. I would be happy to come to your meet but I am traveling for work. I will be back before Christmas so let me know your next meeting after the one next week and that would be awesome.
On to the other question,
380 motors (stock in these tanks) are 25mm diameter motors, with 16mm center to center mounting holes, M2.6 tapped. with a 2.3mm shaft diameter
480 motors are 33mm diameter motors, with 21 mm center to center mounting holes, M2.6 tapped. with a 3.175mm shaft diameter
540 motors are 36mm diameter motors, with 25 mm center to center mounting holes, M2.6 tapped, with a 3.175mm shaft diameter
480 motors are hard to find (in sensored brushless inrunners) but you can buy a 540 sensored brushless inrunner that will pull 25 amps at 11.1v (3s), two of those is my plan. Somewhere around 2600kv.

Re: 380 to 540 aluminum motor adapter plate
I might be interested, I like my tanks to go fast, I found some fast 480's, or 380's, cant remember which, on ebay, 5 for $12, and put two in my panther G. Because fast makes it more fun for me plus more torque. Question though, WHAT advantage do you get putting in the 540 motors?
Re: 380 to 540 aluminum motor adapter plate
540 motors have way more torque and speed than a 380 does. having those motors in something like the HL m1a2 will make it more realistic since the tank does 45 mph cross country ( its the off road cadillac of track vehicles ).
Re: 380 to 540 aluminum motor adapter plate
Nice idea but I was pushed for room getting a 480 in my stugIII. When I measured the width of the hull in the tiger 1, its the same width. The 480 performs perfect on grass, cant see me needing more torque.

Re: 380 to 540 aluminum motor adapter plate
Where would we buy the correct drive pinion that would mesh with the gearbox and fit on the larger out put shaft of the 540 motors? Also would these fit into the gearbox frame like the stock motors do or what is needed to make them fit? I'm ALWAYS interested in more power/torque for my 20 pound tanks so if you can do this and know where to get a proper pinion gear for the motors I'll take 3 sets of these to start with.
