Hi Adie Hawkeye ,
Welcome to the Forum.
I am glad that you have managed to get 2 of the tanks working.. fingers crossed for the third.
I am looking forward to seeing some of the modelling work that you do on these tanks.

Welcome to the forum, and its good to see someone who has a long history of modelling under their belt.
Ok, now these HL batteries are, to be blunt, pretty useless. As has already been said they will only give you around 20-30 mins of running time.
HL tank batteries are all 7.2v
The difference is the mah rating. The HL's are 2000 mah. You can get batteries up to 5000 mah, they are also higher quality. The higher the mah, the longer the battery will last on a full charge. A fully charged battery is usually at 8.4v. Most tank circuits cut the power when it drops to 6v, so what you are looking for is a battery that stays above 6v for as long as possible. Generally the more you pay, the better the battery...and good ones are not particularly cheap.
The next thing is that you then need a decent charger. If it can charge at 4 amps, and has what is called 'peak detect' then it will charge a battery a gazillion times faster than the HL charger which is about 400 milliamps or less than half of 1 amp.
Peak Detect means that the charger detects when the battery is fully charged and automatically drops down to a trickle charge to prevent over charging, and thus damaging the 'rather expensive' battery.
Smoke Units? Well most of us remove them as they go bang anyway, and all the time that they are running, they are taking power from the battery. If you run them dry of oil they will overheat and break, if you overfill with oil, they won't work.
The HL tanks are pretty rugged, and you should get plenty of enjoyment out of them. Of course, if you get hooked, you will start looking in the builds section and start thinking 'I could do that to mine'...

Hi Adie, welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear about your plight with the roadside bomb, I've come across too many of those darn things who have put my friends in the same situation as your good self.
But testament to you for keeping up the hard work and making something of the horrid outcome.
Hopefully we will get chance to see some of your models.
