Can anybody tell me a source for the gearbox motor gear?

Post by Marc780 »

if someone can help I'd be thankful, I have several motors 480 size that i want to fit the gear, but short a couple of the gears (the small gear that is pressed onto the motor shaft) - I don't know how to size them!
So far these are all i've found - anyone familiar with the sizing numbers? Or does anyone know a source to buy just the gears already the right size?

Hi I think that Heng Long use a 48 pitch pinion gear.... You have to be careful because the wrong size pinion gear simply will not 'Mesh' properly with the other gears and your tank will sound like it has worn out big end bearings in its engine.....Yes I did make that mistake :{
The hole diameter must match your new motor and the gear must match the existing gearbox.

.
I have highlighted the 48 part..
In RC there are a number of different gear teeth sizes we tend to use, based on two systems. Imperial and metric. The imperial system has sizes 24dp, 32dp, 48dp and 64dp. DP stands for Diametral Pitch and the number refers to the number of teeth per inch. The metric system has sizes 0.4m, 0.5m, 0.6m, 0.7m, 0.8m and 1m. M stands for Module and is the ratio of the reference diameter of the gear divided by the number of teeth.
.
It goes on to say..
48dp and its metric equivalents tend to be preferred by 1:10 off-road racers, mainly because of their strength in comparison to the 64dp and smoother operation than 32dp. Off-road models need gears that can handle all the knocks and bangs, as well as heavy landings off high jumps.

Marc,

If you are swapping out old motors and replacing it with the 480s, can't you just resue the pinion gear then ? Pop them out of the old one and install them on the 480s...... I am sure I have some lying around too if you need them.

Marc, just PM you. Your message will show in the outbox until I read it, so it is not stuck. I just haven't got around to it.
