Porsche to Henchel turret
I'd like to upgrade my King Tiger to have the Henchel turret from the Porsche one I have, I had wanted the Henchel but I could NOT pass up the deal I got on this one! Anyway I know the upper hull has that ring on the Porsche version but that can be removed easy enough, is there anything else I would need to do for this swap/upgrade?

Re: Porsche to Henchel turret
You'd need a turret complete with a gun as they're slightly different but the turret ring should be the same size. Apart from that the only other modifications are the ones you mention.

Re: Porsche to Henchel turret
Oh god, I hope you didn't do this just on my say so!
You're going to need to do some cutting to get it flush, not sure if it's hollow or solid as that could affect the turret ring size. In respect to the mechanics I'm not sure if you'd need to move the turret rotation motor or not.

Re: Porsche to Henchel turret
Let me know how that conversion goes Jack...
...I would say wait till I do mine...as I'm going to strip my porsche tiger...Put the IR in my Henschel ...and the bb unit along with the rest of the gear into my Tamiya
...but that's a ways off

Re: Porsche to Henchel turret
Bill, WHAT?!?!? I'm doing this whole thing because YOU said it would work!
Nahhhhh I'm only kidding Bill I just wanted a second perspective on it as I already thought I knew what all I'd need to do but I just wanted a double check on me. I know the turret ring needs to go and yes is is solid as there is no evidence of the ring from the underneath on the upper hull so sanding it off will work. As for the motor I had already moved it once so it would not be under the engine hatch when you would open it so if it needs to be moved again its no big deal. But thanks man!
Alpha, its all good bud I had been planning this since for a while like since I got my KT I'm just getting around to it.

It's ok though...I know one day three will become two

Good Luck on your Conversion Jack

No sanding needed on the ring, it just pops off and leaves 3 little holes that are easily filled. I have done this conversion before with little trouble.
Re: Porsche to Henchel turret
You know, another thing you might consider is keeping the Porsche turret (since you have it already) and painting both turrets to match the hull. The ring on the upper hull (that you're planning to remove) wasn't added to prevent the shot trap under the Porsche turrets until after the first three months of production. The early Porsche turrets also had two telescopic holes in the turret front, and a smooth one-piece barrel. Neither of those would be too difficult to add to your current turret. Just a thought; rather than tossing it out.
