Mr Surfacer

Post by Mackem »

Hi All,

I'm expecting a delivery of Mr. Surfacer shortly.
I've never used the stuff before so here's the question.
Do you brush it on and leave it, or do you brush it on and stipple it?

Thanks in advance

brush it on then stipple it with a cut down brush, make the brush bristles about 4/5 mil long and clean the brush as you go, humbrol liquid Polly is a good cleaner.....

Is Humbrol liquid poly still legal ??? - I thought 1.1.1 Tricholorethane (sp?) was banned back in 1995?
(tho it did get you nice and high tho  :-X ) (Joking aside, don't try this at home kids - you'll probably die of some thing nasty :o )
Comedy post aside, don't buy "Testors Contour Putty" for surface texturing - it *IS* the proverbial 'Chocolate Fireguard' in every sense of the word!

Mr. Surfacer always gets recommended over here, but nobody seems to stock it on a regular basis - I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

Cheers Mart, should be posting an update this weekend.

Oz, that's 2 deadly substances you are using, liquid poly and that green filler. Hardcore  ;) ;D ;D ;D

Apparently Tricholorethane 1.1.1 was banned because it damages the ozone (don't know what people are doing to get it up there). I wondered why I could never find any.

The liquid poly you get these days smells differently from the stuff of my chldhood (not that i was an abuser.... well not without glueing plastic together  ;)) I found this out a few years ago when i picked up a vintage bottle of the old stuff in Modellers Loft, Caterham. They sell loads of collectors items, mainly 1/6 dollies but they had found a box of the good stuff and i bought a bottle. When i first used it it brought back all the old memories... sad isnt it.

Oh well better take the rose tinted specs off then  ::)

Trust me mate, it got me high enough... ;D ;D *ahem*

I seem to recall that MEK is considered considerably more harmfull to health than Tric, but Tric got banned as it was in widespread use as a degreaser - I remember when I started my Uni work experience the comapny had just got rid of Tric for legaslative reasons - I can only imagine how high the workers in the sheet metal shop got before that ;D
Nowadays we use whitespirits (or at least something that smells the same) as a degreaser in the engine build area (at least we did when we had engines to build :( ) - its not quite the same...
