Tiger 1 has radio issues

Post by DirtyHarry82 »

Just received a Heng Long Tiger 1 BB, 2013 model, plastic tracks, gears, wheels and it has problems straight out of the box. Hopefully I can resolve this problem with your help. Symptom - Tank does not drive forward nor turn, will however drive in reverse and turn in reverse (somewhat). I've used the "search" button and exhausted 10hrs to no luck. I charged the battery with my Dynamite Prophet Plus charger (AC/DC Peak charger for NiMH/NiCd, has adj. charge rate 4-7cell) even tried some of my other batts to the same end effect. Checked internal wiring (all connections) incl. Antennae. Also checked radio (27Mhz, non adj. trims) internal connections and crystals. Cleaned drive gimbal switch and reassembled. Motors run fine. In Reverse. But no go forward. What else did I look over or miss??

Thanks, Harry

Good Afternoon,
From your description, it sounds like either the TX or the crystals. Do you have another radio to swap the crystal into and see if that helps at all?

Not at hand. The Tx talks to the Rx, All other functions work. Just no go forward or forward turn. Makes the sound but motors don't turn. Superspin also doesn't work. Tank tested on tile..

Harry,
It's hard to determine without hearing the noise. Is it a chattering, clacking noise like the tank would make when running? If so check the trims again to make sure that they are the non moving type. If it is the whine of motors under stress trying to move something, check that all gears are meshed correctly and that nothing is bent or out of place.

Thank You PainlessWolf. Sound is only audible from the speaker (small beeps as is transitional speed changes) but no motor noise, no hum, no nada. Trims are glued in place fillers.. No actual trim built into radio. Motors do not twitch or turn when drive stick is pressed forward.

Harry,
I think you have a bum TX or RX. Time to contact the folks you got it from. Keep us in the loop on who it is and what their solutions to your issues are, please.

Painless

T.Y. Wolf. Correct forge. And no other radio that I could use w/o hacking the wiring.. Mostly 2ch stuff.. I took the stick apart and cleaned with Elec. Contact cleaner (quick dry), aired it out and reassembled but same symptom.

Also tank was a gift. No way for me to find out who seller was. I REALLY wanted to be able to at least play with it before I started modding it out.

Played with the Right Thumbstick Gimbal last night some more. Seems to just have a few dead spots.. If I slowly crept it Forward while panning L to R (or viceversa) the tank (supported mid air) did move the tracks Forward but not at speed or sync. Sporadic at best. I glanced a site awhile back that had HL radio parts but didn't add to the Favs.
