RC transmitter will not turn on

Howdy,

I just obtained my first RC tank, a Panzer III from HL Matos. The main battery is charged & the tank's lights go on when the main button is turned on. The problem is that the RC control transmitter does not turn on. When I hit the "ON" switch the Power light does not go on & the tank does not respond to commands. I have 8 brand new Duracell AA batteries installed & reinstalled a couple of times. The battery lid does not close as tight as I'd like but that does not appear be an issue.
This is a Sender RC unit with crystal. There is a plastic tape/tag on the lower right marked 03 TX which I believe is the frequency. Should I remove that tape; could this be blocking the unit from powering up? Same tape and number 03 is located in the tank's main battery compartment.

Any suggestions for how to get this thing to turn on is appreciated.

Good Morning, Skirmisher,
Try different batteries. For some reason, the Duracell brand batteries don't fit well in the HL TX. Connection issues between + and - on the batteries while installed.

Skirmisher Hi, Welcome to the Forum, The plastic tag (03) is to tell you what crystal you have and of course the transmitter and the receiver must both have (03) I would not take those tags off because if you later aquire another HENG LONG Tank with a 27Mhz transceiver you will need to know that it has different pairings of crystals or you will have two Tanks being controlled by one transceiver!!!! This is one of many reasons for upgrading to a 2.4 GhZ set up because the frequencies are almost infinite and once you BIND your Transceiver to your control board you can guarantee not to clash with anyone else on the same frequency. Just double check that the batteries are inserted the correct way around, I have been in a rush in poor light before and managed to do just that.

If the polarity is correct, then it may well be that a wire has become detached inside, it would be worthwhile undoing the screws on the back of the tx and gently seperating the two halves. There is a circuit board inside.

If you can't see any loose wires at this point, then unscrew the antenna and remove the screws holding the circuit board down. Do this gently without pulling on anything and you will be ok.

If there are no loose wires underneath the circuit board, then it may be a faulty tx, though I suspect that you will find the fault in the above steps.

If the transmitter battery cover dose not fit tight I'd still look for a problem in the battery compartment. Something like the little sliding battery center dividers. I had one with a broken tab that kept the batterys from touching in the center and the compartment cover from closing tightly. When I finally figured out the problem I just made sure the divider with the broken slider tab was all the way down like the other dividers with the batteries installed put the compartment cover back on ( It fit tightly now ) and the transmitter turned on as it should.
