These aftermarket boards are alway heralded as great sounding with lots of features, but I remember reading that the 1st clarke TK20 boards had an IR range of about 5ft, so were no good if you intended to battle with Tamiyas, especially outside where it was even worse. Are all these newer boards OK for battling?

Hey jtracks,i don't think the cutting out will harm the gears to much, maybe if you have a really heavy all metal beast it may cause problems with standard plastic gearboxes or the cheap metal ones, I have never had a problem to be fair, let us know how you get on, check out the other boards rctanks.Australia does, they do some great stuff!

Yes, I will look into it right after the first of the year. I looked at their site yesterday and they seem to be working on quite a few things.spongehoobtank82 wrote:Hey jtracks,i don't think the cutting out will harm the gears to much, maybe if you have a really heavy all metal beast it may cause problems with standard plastic gearboxes or the cheap metal ones, I have never had a problem to be fair, let us know how you get on, check out the other boards rctanks.Australia does, they do some great stuff!

Re: What type of tanks do you buy and why?
I'll answer this both personally and as a business
personally - All IR all the time and I convert anything BB to IR. One reason, you can not battle buddies with a BB. The best reason though is that BB tanks get boring quickly. I also find that doing IR I can get awesome recoils with the cannon with very little effort.
My Business - requests for tanks are split 60% BB and 40% IR. After a couple months almost all of the BB tank customers come back to me wanting IR battle compatibility.
I think this is because almost everybody tries to take their tank to the next level from out of the box.
6 months later there is only a small portion that are looking to buy another tank.
