Re: Best way to paint tyres?
No quick solution for this one Jake....the blackwalls are a task even with templates ....I generally use a brush ...then spin the wheels....On HL stock plastic wheels I've found that if you don't get too much overspray on the black....you can rub the excess paint off with a paper towel...and a little nudging of a finger nail
Another way..is to reverse paint...and paint the black first...then to the center of the wheel afterwards if your airbrush is a good one...you should be able to free hand the center without much overspray on the black
Rubbers on metal wheels ...just paint the wheels...the rubbers can be cleaned with a solvent
All in all though...no matter which method...it still takes time

I saw on EBAY... a guy listing templates for painting wheels...but they are actually pretty easy to make out of cardboard so I just passed that listing over but yeah.. I think brush is pretty fast.... basically take off the tracks and spin the wheel individually and hold the brush to the outside perimeterJake79 wrote:Hi Alpha

Re: Best way to paint tyres?
On my Jagdpanther I did the tyres last. Used tamiya rubber black to get the colour right, and gently brushed the paint on using a very long bristled brush turning a quarter at a time when the brush needed paint.
Covers all the overspray, and adds texture.
dust, mud etc then does the rest.
Good thing is that Panthers have raised inner rim edges where the tyres meet, so its not as hard as it looks to do.
Patience young Grasshopper...............only when you paint the tyres with one stroke without SWEARING YOUR HEAD OFF shall you truely be considerd a master

Do you mean TIRES? Properly translated for my fellow Americans.

Re: Best way to paint tyres?
I'd say unless you have a steady hand, make a template. Paint the tyres first then place the template round the wheel and paint the hub.
To make a template, you'd want something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jakar-Compass ... 1177728374?

Re: Best way to paint tyres?
Oh Cruiser please, the first language of the United States of America is ENGLISH, and here in ENGLAND we quite cherish the way it is spelt, and if it was not for an American with a great dislike for Great Britain (a certain Mr Webster) you too would be spelling words as we do, Mr Webster declared that America should have its own Dictionary with its own unique spelling and so because someone who did not like us published a dictionary with poor spelling but printed to appeal to those Americans with a dislike of the old country you now find yourselves stuck with a system of spelling that no other country uses, look about, there are 260 million American citizens, there are 2 billion citizens of India and India in common with Australia, New Zealand(Hermans unique spelling does not count) and just about every other English speaking country spells as we do, If you wish to return to the original syntax I do not think anyone would object!!!!
Ps please do not take any of this too seriously. shaun

I think I am about to upset someone
