If you are not using the HL IR system, and have an RX18, you can trigger a standard led from the RX18.
Switch off the tank and disconnect the battery.
With the RX18 facing you and the power lead at top left.
Top row of board.
First socket.
It has 5 pins.
The left pin is IR+
The second pin is IR-
Use an HL 5 pin plug.
Use the two wires on the left to connect an led.
Job done. Make sure that all solder joints are secure and insulated with heatshrink.

Re: Cheap RX18 Muzzle Flash
Interesting. Does it work on the " left stick up" aswell? And does the led need a resistor?

Re: Cheap RX18 Muzzle Flash
It's a 5v feed as I recall...I couldn't test it as the battery is flat on my multimeter. This being the case, as long as you use a 5v led you should be ok. If there is a spike in the circuit it would blow the led of course. My led does have a resistor on it, but it is so old and hidden under heatshrink that I have no idea what the capacity is, or what voltage the led is.
The led was fine on the lighting circuit and works well as a muzzle flash, I could press the K button as often as I liked and it wouldn't blow.
I didn't use a resistor when I tried this out years ago, and there is a fix for the left stick on this link as well.
