King Tiger.........Afrika Korps

Post by Awins »

Can anyone tell me if the King Tiger saw action in the desert with the Afrika Korps.
Cheers thank you.
I am not retreating, but simply advancing in another direction!!!

NOW, having said that lots of guys model what if's. There are plenty on here. Look at all the Panther F's, Panther II's, E-25's, E-50's, E-100's, and other assorted paper panzers.

Lets just say for example that Rommel's precious tanker and 2 ships carrying his extra tanks weren't sunk before the battle of Alam Halfa and he had better air cover and actually defeated Montgomery in his new command at the end of August and destroys the 8th army. He advances through Alexandria, Cairo, and seals off the Suez canal. The Torch landings go ahead as planned but with Rommel able to turn his full attention to the Torch landings he fights them to a standstill in Tunisia. Everyone realizes that without a victory in Africa there can be no 2nd front in Europe so both sides pour their resources into Africa as never before well into 43 and 44 and the battles continue to see saw across the desert as before all based on supply. The Germans, with the shorter route can move men and material much quicker. The new Panthers arrive to give Rommel's armour a decisive edge on such an open battlefield that counters any allied thrust. Air power is pretty much balanced out by German attacks on the limited number of air strips and range of allied fighters through all of 43. The Allies realize they need time to build up massive resources needed and at this point all must by sea and so while battles do occur neither side is making much progress over the the better part of 43 and into 44 until a shock panzergruppe with 50 KT's is dispatched in secret to Africa as part of Rommel's latest planned offensive. Using their 88's in stand off engagements and their ability to withstand anything frontally that the allies can throw at them they systematically destroy the armoured opposition concentrating on the newest allied tank destroyers, the M-10 and the British Fireflys, leaving the regular Shermans to the Panthers and latest IV's ....

I'm just saying you can make any scenario up you want to fit the bill. Since I do not model any actual tank out of respect for those who fought in them ( no dis respect to those who do model them. Just my own belief) I can indulge in these what if's all the time! If you want to model a KT in Africa Corp colours go for it!:D

Hi Awins,
At the end of the day this is your personal build, if you choose to do a what if Afrika korps king tiger then go for it.
I think the paintscheme would look rather good.

For all we know the KT could have been earmarked for use with the Afrika Korps at the design stage.

Lots of possibilities.
Razor 1, Intercept Bogies Angels 2 5, Cleared Hot Engage, Fox 2 Fox 2

Semper In Faecibus Sumus Sole Profundum Variat

HL/Tamiya Sherman - Bulldog Turreted
Taigen Tiki Tiger 1
Torro KingTiger
E-25 Tank Destroyer

OK...I'm changing my mind Awins...Dgsellkirk and Merlin have good points... especially the point of it being your tank.... do it in Africa Corp scheme...the result is what makes you happy...not anyone else... So my vote is go for it if that's what you want to do Patton would have had a fit if he saw those in the field :D
