Bovington Visit
Probably will be visiting London over the Christmas Holidays and was wondering what is the easiest (If there is one) to get to Bovington in Dorset. I checked out South West Trains but really strange hours. Not planning on keep a car so it will be have to other means of getting there.

Michael,
The trains are not so bad. We used them the last time we were over there. The fun part was taking a taxi out to the museum from the train station.

Re: Bovington Visit
Michael I would hire a car, as long as it has "SAT NAV" getting there will be easy, "BROWN SIGNS with WHITE LETTERING" are used to direct you to tourist attractions, The weather at Christmas in southern England is usually not at all bad, perhaps some rain showers but not cold and I would not expect snow before late January. and with a car you can visit sites such as Salibury and Stonehenge. The railway system in Britain is pretty good but it gets very busy at holiday times and many trains are fully booked well in advance so if that is your choice do book early, you might like to check out coach travel because Bovington being a military camp the personell going on leave will always take the cheapest form of transport to get to and from London. whatever transport you use I know you will enjoy the museum.

Michael,
I forgot to mention but Jarndice reminded me. Yes! The Museum is Tank Heaven, pure and simple! ;o) Worth any effort to get there.

Michael there is something I forgot to tell you, When you buy your ticket do not lose it because when you decide to leave you can return at a later date and the ticket will still be valid.

Re: Bovington Visit
Thanks guys...... Maybe that's why I only see certain time on the train schedule, perhaps the rest are booked ? I will have to think about this. Really doesn't want to hire a car although last time I drove on the "right" side of the road it wasn't as bad as I thought.
I will be doing a day tour with the family to Stonehench/Bath/Salisbury so I might try to skip out from there and there head down and stay there for the evening.

A car would be the best bet, driving over here is a bit more 'enthusiastic'
than Toronto, but hey, it keeps you awake. lol.
My sister and brother in law come over quite frequently and always hire one, they haven't hit anything yet.
I well recall driving my neice's car in Bramalea, first time out over there. Stopped at the lights, they changed to green so I floored it like you do over here...looked in my mirror and everyone else was still in the starting gate...

I am going to try the SouthWest train website again. Maybe I didn't do it right but all I got was a 9pm from Waterloo and arriving at midnight at Wool.
Bramalea is a suburb so driving is a little more leisurely for sure. Last time I drove on the right side is in Central in Hong Kong and even though it is late at night it is still pretty busy. I just need to figure out the roundabouts........

Sorted guys....... Now I can see trains leaving London for 8am and getting to Wool just after 10am, and the returning just after 5pm from Wool back into London by 8pm which is perfect !
Thanks for all the advice ! Now I just need to sort out the rest of the details like actually getting to London......
