Jagdpanther
Jagdpanther
I have been designing and testing different drive and sprocket designs for a while with my Jagdpanther. The test seem kinda crazy but proved the sprocket pitch needed work and the upgrade to 17 tooth, the new 17 tooth design can be purchased from FOA-Tanks. Loic tried them on his Panther with one set of poly-plastic tracks and one of the original FOA Tracks, worked great.
I'm also testing a track tension system in this video, which worked really great, always relieving and applying tension in response to torque of the demand.

Been away for a bit guys, unavoidable. Trying to get back into having some fun in life with tanks.

Re: Jagdpanther
Thank you, Painless kinda wondering if the guys did not know me anymore? I've started to release some stuff I've been involved in for a while.More to follow. As I get back to building, I've a great deal of design work completed, yet designs which have been sold or shelved the Jagdpanther being the only tanks i've managed to cut and build.

Re: Jagdpanther
Many of the parts are from my Field of Armor static conversion, yet all the metal parts are my own design, layout and laser cut pieces, The sprockets were the 15 tooth like the static kits but with the Pitch altered.
After testing I was able to create a 17 tooth sprocket. I submitted the design to FOA-Tanks owner Loic in exchange for a set for myself.Loic added his beauty ring design and together the sprockets seem very robust. He tested them on his Panther,I am converting my drive to the FOA-Tanks 350watt reduction motors yet retaining my drive mounting JACK SHAFT arrangement. The suspension is the original Panzer twin rail I designed in Dec.2012 and first produced in Feb.2013.
The track tension system is key to the tracks running at very high speeds without breaking, the purpose of the crazy video. Now I know the tension spring has been sized correctly and will work properly.
The lower hull will be altered with a newly cut Loaders side section, changing the wheel location to the exact position of the Jagdpanthers wheel pattern. I will post a series of pics tomorrow detailing the suspension and hull in the flat, With the right wheels and tracks any hull could be created ,yet thats the problem so few companies offer wheels and tracks alone.
I have enough wheels and tracks to produce 8 more Panther or Jagdpanther tanks, once I have worked out some of my mistakes and completed the finer details. Gun mounting is a tippmann 98 paintball weapon, yet I have a recoiling design which I would like to mount. The only problem is the cash needed always prevents faster progress. Oh well enjoy guys, ask questions as the new laser machines and 3D printers open a whole new world for us. cheers Saxondiog

Re: Jagdpanther
The FOA-Tanks MPSS System uses the same design technology with some changes allowing fabrication without requiring machine work.
The rails are laser cut metal which when formed create the same longitudinal support without the Torsion rods extending across the hull.
Control arms are angled in the German style on my system, where the FOA-Tanks system angles both sides to the rear.
Assembly techniques are completely different, yet the spring rebound and tension exactly the same.
I'm not expressing an opinion on which is better, just the base differences. The one point I will make is my system requires machine work. The FOA-Tanks MPSS system can be purchased at the link.
If you're interested in pursuing 1/6th scale Armor , the best option at the lowest cost remains FOA-Tanks. If on the other Hand custom built German Armor is desirable then the process I followed is a mixture of both purchased parts and fabrication.
The good new after 2 years of design and working with commercial manufacturing, we as Hobbyist have more choices than ever before.
More pictures to follow of this build, from flat metal sheets to laser cutting and assembly.

Saxon does this mean college is over and we get your contributions on a more regular level? Whatever, it is great to hear from you once more.

Re: Jagdpanther
Very cool. I've seen the video of it driving around before. I love the look of this scale!

Re: Jagdpanther
Thanks guys for the comments and welcome. I've finished 5 of 6 certificates to earn my degree, basically one term left in the spring and the finales.
But for two years I have pretty much gone silent not posting my builds, this is actually Jagdpanther 2 and drive system 4 ,several tension systems have been tried, even sprocket designs changing to improve the original FOA STATIC kit. which I will say is brilliant in the design methods Randy created and assembly, think about this guy having no base to create from being able to layout on a flat sheet of steel what when bent and formed is a 3D object,a tank!
Every single piece and feature had to be sketched, drawn, and created. Molds, for resin parts, tracks, wheels all created by this one man. I've been fortunate to learn from Randy,to see his original work in COREL,AUTOCAD and SOLID WORKS and to take his design techniques and apply my mechanical techniques to create a solid machine. The only thing which stopped progress was greed, not mine or his and I'll say no more about that.
But I wish to share some pictures and the evolution of this concept. And want guys to understand this build and every mistake allowed me to learn and improve products which will soon be marketed by US companies for anyone to enjoy.
And I can and will offer designs and solutions for tankers which because of my experience will save custom builders money. More tracks and wheels are becoming available , and with these any German and soon Russian and American Tanks can be created using laser cut material and 3D PRINTERS, designed with 3D SOFTWARE like INVENTOR,FUSION or SOLIDWORKS,and COREL
Please ask questions, make comments benefit from what I and Alb have done. See the possibility of creating Large scale armor at fractions of the cost a few years ago.
More to follow guys, the layout, the forming methods ,and the real work.cleaning and prep of the netal before primer and painting the base coat.
cheers Saxondog

Re: Jagdpanther
Blake I can see there's a lot of time and effort gone into the chassis ,it looks very robust and usable ,well done
