Hi all,
I have been doing some work on my old SU-100 and want to show some pics. The SU-100 is one of my earliest custom tanks. It started of life as a WSN T34/85 which I am not terribly fond of, but then I saw the mod of SU-85/100 from An-Bri-RC-Modellbau I decided to sacrifice the T34/85. I custom fitted a brass barrel and put in some electronics but that's it. I have seen the new Taigen T34/85 and knowing that they did not have the same initial problem of the suspension being too high (a la HL's T34/85), I decided to give the old SU-100 a new chassis. At the meantime, I have also sourced a 100 mm barrel from Panzer Parts (??) I think.
Of course the Taigen T34 metal chassis does not disappoint. All the wheels are on ball bearing (other than sprockets), individual coil spring suspension for the rubber lined boggies and a idler notch tensioner. Runs like a champ.

Re: Updated SU-100
Question Michael.... the new Taigen's suspension... it's much like the WSN right?..except the arms are metal
...I ask because I was disappointed to see that...thought Taigen would have went torsion instead

ALPHA,
Just had a quick look. I always like the WSN one other than the fact that it is all plastic, so the Taigen one not being torsion bar suspension didn't bother me too much. I never looked at it closely until you ask, and yes, it is identical to the WSN for 4 of the 5 road wheels. For some strange reason the first boggie on the WSN is some crazy contraption of swing arm inside and a separate smaller coil spring pulling side ways.
I also did the epoxy fix that the forum folks has been talking about, as when the metal swing arm is push it pulls the plastic side wall away from the sheet metallower plate. So I lay down a layer of the epoxy along the lower bottom so that the plastic side won't pull away from the sheet metal lower.
I always like the WSN lower hull look and I wasn't going to convert to the new HL hull, but the Taigen metal one looks bang on so that's why I decided to upgrade. The WSN lower will go to a good cause and hopefully will power dgsselkirk's trumpeter T34/76 static model.

Michael,
Excellent looking conversion! It is really good to hear that the new Taigen stuff is proving useful to older mods and conversions as well as being great right out of the box.

Thanks Michael...thought it looked the same on the video..coil springs seem like a nice way to go... I was just hoping for more from Taigen... thought torsions would be nice on that chassis...perhaps there just wasn't enough room for it all to fitMichaelC wrote:ALPHA,

Great job on the retrofit though...like how it turned out...and glad that you like it..because that's the main idea behind it all
