i will agree with ex-pat both of you are correct and there is no real hard evidence to support anything and the great thing with modelling is artistic licence i stuck with that on the bulldog (brel remember the purple camo)

nobody knows for sure as all the tiger storys are just that storys and who knows when those pics were taken we can only assume and guess

certainly not worth gettin in a fight over lol cmon guys please  ;D ;D

was goin to ask some questions as i will be starting my build on a late tiger and was goin to try and get something right
none of us know for sure and i like that means i can cock it up and blame somethin else :D :D :D :D

Kind regards Rob

did i tell ya i got me a new lower hull from rctankde and a set of late tracks  cant wait to start ;)

Ok boys the only known picture of 007 has already been posted, this is a link to all the known pictures of SS101 Tigers from Normandy
http://www.tiif.de/thread.php?threadid= ... be2d004d3c
008 has monocular gun sights this could mean that it’s either an early late model Tiger or a mid Tiger, command tanks where built as and when required some from tanks returned to the factory if they where returned Tigers things like tool location wouldn’t have been changed
If you have a look at the left side of the picture from the idler to the sprocket you will notice that there are no outer road wheels making this a steel wheeled variant.

This book is an interesting read and claims that Wittmann and some of his crew escaped the tank after if was knocked out

Rivetcounter, thanks for the excellent scanned pictures, it is much appreciated. I will take you up on your offer of a scan of the Dragon 1/35 instructions, I will pm you. I feel guilty about starting this thread as it has caused much debate and the last thing I wanted was people to be  at each others throats :'(

Here is an interesting link to 007 (model kit) being modeled in a diorama setting.http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/englis ... xcitejapan Click on gallery 1, then scroll down to Tiger 007 on the right column and click on that.

I see the tank in this diorama is fitted with steel road wheels. Also it is minus its engine covers, as in the photographs. Without starting further controversy do you think it went into combat minus the covers / or were they lost due to its destruction. From what I have read on the subject rightly or wrongly it seems the 2./s.SS.Pz.-Abt.101  does appear to be a real mix of features throughout the 14 Tiger 1's they used, from binocular-monocular sights, differing loaders hatches, early type wheels and later steel types. Unfortunately, without a lot of hard photographic evidence regarding these particular Tigers. Anyway, this is a tremendous forum with some very knowledgeable and helpful members. I'm pleased to be part of it!!  ;D

Cheers.

Steiner, debate is healthy without it we wouldn't be able to correct mistakes, http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/englis ... xcitejapan this is one fantastic diorama the person who has made this must have spent a lot of time researching this Tiger as you can see from real the picture there is little doubt that wittmann's Tiger suffered a catastrophic explosion judging by the distance the turret is from the hull this explosion is what would have blown the engine vents from the tank the front vents have the fuel tanks beneath this model is what you should base your build on the mid Tiger posted earlier is completely wrong examine the tool stowage on the rear of the tank then compare it to the real picture they are totally different this layout is of late design also the crew heater situated below the left exhaust is of late type.

SS101 started receiving Tigers x8 in December 43 these where mid Tigers later deliveries where mid and late types most of the late types wouldn't have had hull cutouts at the front they would mostly have had binocular gun sights no rain cuts in the coupler and definitely no pilzen.

good books on this subject are Tigers in Combat Vol II, Tiger I on the Western Front these two books will give you a vast amount of information.

I will sort the scans out Sunday evening
