The Tiger hull sides do curve, though you can't normally tell because of the side skirts which go in a straight edge line.

Check these pics on this page: http://www.tiger-tank.com/secure/gallery8.htm

You can see the curve there.
The upper inner top well of the track well...none of my tanks have that curve 8O
NEVER MIND LOL...it does have the curve :haha: :haha: :haha:

The real Tiger did have that slight bend in the middle of the track well roof.
It did NOT have the other bend near the front. The armour wall had the bend there, the roof didn't.

Amazing work, so many Tigers have been built that it takes a lot of work to make one stand out, and this one is right up there with the cream of the crop.

Finished my hull sanding for now and decided to do more detail parts. Waiting on TaoBao as well for a few more detail parts that can't be found anywhere else. Not sure how well the site works but I ordered parts and paid, I hope they show up. I also bit down and bought a Clark board after doing my research. My goal is to get the lower hull and electronics sorted and running by the end of the year. 8| For that matter I've already got a Turnigy 9x and receiver plus the henglong/taigen IR parts.

Cut up the AA mount and fit the gurtsack and glued it back together. Got the MG and nicer brass armored barrel together. Got the transmission armor together and ready to mount.

Cool Painless, I look forward to viewing your progress. I learned the same way, viewing many great builders on this forum. :)

I couldn't help myself today. Spent more time on several pieces of the tank tonight.

One more pic because I'm really happy with how it looks. I'd call this part 90% complete. My commander is ready to shoot down low flying YAKs.

That AA gun sight from Aber was something like 13 pieces? I ended up using only 8 of the 13 pieces, the rest were too small to handle. Ludicrous... but still looks fine. Not sure anyone ever mounted an AA sight on an armored barrel MG34 before but I like the look.

EDIT: I stand corrected! Found this pic. http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/image ... 784_24.jpg

Hi Sov,

I like the work on the mg, looks great. A couple of details I have noticed though ;)

I believe the slots in the barrel of the armoured barrel shroud should be oriented top and bottom, I have not found a pic with them on the sides. The slots themselves are not always obvious in pictures, but the holes towards the rear of the barrel shroud usually are. If you can see 2 holes on the side at the rear of the barrel then the slots will be top and bottom.

The lid of the gurtsack should flap back towards the cupola/ commander.

I will post some pics later which I hope will show what I mean, photo bucket is down for maintenance at the mo.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning these details, and sorry yes I am being picky   , but being picky about the detail is something I feel you may appreciate (I hope so) :D :D :D

You are right I don't think I have come acrsoss the AA sight fitted to the armoured barrel until you posted the pic you found, although I believe the sight was part of the kit issued with the gun. The AA sight always looks great on a model.

OK... Photo Bucket is back up so here are the pics I promised.

This is a good line drawing showing the detail of the gurtsack and its mount.

Image

this is a restored MG34 with armoured barrel, this shows the orientation of the slots in the barrel, and all the parts which seem to have been issued with each gun. Nice pic of a 7.92 ammo belt too showing how the rounds fit with the brass casings showing more on the underside of the belt (this pic shows the underside), the tab at the start of the belt, and how the belt stays in one piece when the rounds are fired, not like modern link belts which are just made up with individual links which all eject separately.

Image

Lastly two WWII pics with show this AA mount in use with an MG34 with the armoured barrel. These show both the barrel slot orientation, and the gurtsack orientation. Not too clear, but the detail is there.

As I said before I hope you won't mind me bringing up these details, Its a shame to miss them having done such a great job on the MG34.

all the best

Great pic that Magman. Thanks for posting it

I noticed too in this pic that the gurtsack lid is opened towards the muzzle of the MG34. I have not seen that before, perhaps this is a gurtsack which has been reloaded by the crew. I believe the sack clicks into place when correctly inserted into the mount, so I think the arsenals would have loaded them the way I described earlier, with the lid folding back towards the cupola. Interesting    :D
