If its true, it can only be a good thing. Besides, im sure I'd get bored of only killing abrams and leos with the chally. ;)

Tamiya apparently wanted to make an Abrams but GM wanted some crazy amount for the copywrite. Krupp who make the leopard 2 where the complete opposite and I think approached tamiya.

People getting their hair off about this seem to be forgetting tamiya are heavily focused on their domestic market and a Japanese tank should be a good seller. The most important thing about this is that tamiya are still interested in 1/16 rc tanks.

If they had announced a Chally or an Abrams people would be crying rehash. We get another mtb to play with the slew that hl are releasing, the ztz and the Leo.

What Tom says - Tamiya always look after Japan first. Remember though there last kit before this was the IS2. They'll build what they can sell. It's not like HL, which can knock together a cheap ABS kit based on a standard chassis and sell them as toys for 150 quid. The Tamiya Leopard 2 is a £700 kit.

Would I buy one of these Type 10s? In the future maybe, but I need a new HOTAS first! I'd have much preferred the Type 74. In my mind that is one of the best looking tanks ever produced.

.
The Leopard 2 is very well known though. 3800 built and exported all over the world. Based on the Leopard 1 which was similarly very well exported. Challenger II, 400+ built and exported to Oman and there is no interest from BAE to build or export more of them. Oddly enough this was because every time they tried to sell them, the competitor was the Leopard 2 and people bought that instead. Which one is better is left up to the experts but I don't see Tamiya making a 1:16 Challenger II kit as it probably wouldn't sell very well. Niche tank for a niche market.

Where I think they should look is a Centurion, as that I think would sell pretty well the world over.

Don't think it's a copyright issue.... maybe a national security thing... but really most of those excuses are pretty lame as models of all those tanks have been available in 1/35th scale for decades....as far as the Abrams goes..if the cost of the copyright was that high...why are they being produced by the companies that produce them for the lowest price?
Anyway...wouldn't jump on this model right off the bat... first gens are usually lousy... not to mention there won't be aftermarket parts for it

Some US companies are notorious when it comes to copyright, Northrup Grumman for instance has refused the copyright to make there WW2 planes in sims for instance. No reasons given.

The difference here is Tamiya is in Japan and HL is Chinese. One is q stickler for the law, the other practically ignores it.

The Chinese are smart.... we might grumble about missing details...but that's why they can get away with what they do... Japan is detail oriented...so everything is a must..thus they get stuck with copyright infringement ...and we get stuck with higher prices :|

Could be the reason why the Abrams is coming out before the Chally .... you Brits don't care about loopholes... just the image of the Chally is enough to stall it's release
US sticks to the law...so if there is a loophole... the Chinese use it :haha:

Being that it will be a new release it would be kind of hard to say... Tamiya does put out a fine product...but they usually still need some attention...but man..if it came with metal tracks... along with the normal metal parts... I'm with you..it will be a nice tank :D

Good Evening,
I was hoping that Tamiya would one day bring out the Type 74 in 1/16. I'll file that alongside the M48 and M60 now.
regards,

It will probably be mostly ABS, nylon and styrene. The leopard 2 has almost no metal in it other thanks some motor casings.
