- Or just cheapo Methylated spirits + a paint brush ( Wood alcohol in the U.S. ) - from your local D.I.Y. - be careful if you've repainted your tank though , it is an acrylic thinner/solvent
to the bouncy room ! Yay !

Its unlikely to be the drive motors, though I have had a couple of turret motors over the years that caused problems, I managed to blow SLU turret esc's due to faulty motors, took a while to source that little problem. :/

The best approach is to take the upper hull off, but the tank on a block, and run it. If it starts to whiff again, then touch the Rx18 case to see if it is getting hot. If you see any magic smoke then turn it off right away.

A cheap way to cool the board is to take it out of the plastic case. throw the top half away. Cut away most of the bottom half, so that you are just left with the outer edge, and the pcb mounting lugs. Ths way plenty of air can circulate through the pcb. You can glue the case to a suitable point on the hull, and if you have any styrene you can raise it slightly to allow air to pass underneath. The slightly more expensive route is to ring up a cooling fan, though unless you are stressing the tank it shouldn't be necessary.

The RX18 is either going to work, or fail, if the tank runs and all of the ancillaries are functioning, it should be ok. Check all of the solder joints, especially the on/off switch, smoker switch, motor wires etc. Give them a gentle tug to see if they pull off. Check for trapped cables that have frayed through (turrets wiring etc) and check that nothing electrical is touching any metal anywhere.

If you have greased your gearbxes it may be nohing more than that whch you can smell, but its always a good idea to check all wiring periodically just to ensure that nothing is coming loose.

Hope this helps.

It's in an aerosol can, you spray whatever needs cleaning for a few seconds, the spray washes off whatever nasty stuff there is and then dries VERY fast and leaves no residue. Its sold in every auto parts store in the U.S. and probly Walmart too.

Hi,

Is the smell burning plastic or is it more like say burning bakelike/ceramics this smell would indicate a component failure, the guys have already said take the top of and have a look put it on a block of wood and give it run, any smoke switch it off remove battery for piece of mind, power switch can fail leaving tank permanently on.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

John
