Servo Recoil Wiring ?

Post by hawkeye3guns »

Hi I scratch build a lot but at the moment having just been to the MAD meeting and seen thier tanks I would like to fit a servo recoil into my prototype sherman. ie easy 8 hull with a M26 turret.
Fitting the servo in is no problem BUT is it possible to wire it into the standard S&S RX-18 or do you have to spend a lot of dosh and buy a IBU or clark board in order to make it work. I'm a mechanical engineer and the building and engineering are a dodle but the electronics for me is a nightmare ie. If I carn;t hit it then I'm stuck.
Can anyone help ? with a simple wiring diagram for a duffer or is it just not possible.
My alternative is to fit a 600 to 1 gearbox with a cam on top and just a micro switch to rotate the gearbox and thus give a recoil but then its not sycronized to the gun sound.

Hey there Hawkeye...Unfortunately the standard RXs don't support servos ...you might be able to get away with a Taigen..but I wouldn't be certain about that... another board perhaps control unit might be the better path ;)

Hi Alpha thanks for the reply. It looks like this might have to wait a bit then? I busy on my Scratch 1/16 M270 build at the moment and also scaling the drawings for a M88 at the same scale. I thought it might be a quick lighthearted diversion away the build as a break. I havent got the cash to buy new boards

Hi Denzil,

some thing like this might work

http://rctanksaustralia.com/shop/index. ... cts_id=239

but you'll have to have Kevin at RCTA program it for recoil action before shipping.

Downside is it won't be programmable unlike the IBU2 or Clark.

Hi Denzil you could fit a heng long Stug recoil unit (just replace the BB gun, they work with the RX18 just work backwards slow back fast forward. Dave forgebear usually has them in stock. You can even use them when/if you upgrade the electrics to a IBU or Clark or switch to a servo recoil.

Hi Denzil you can also fit the Heng Long flash unit ,you are basically swopping a BB to I.R.(heng long)You can add as much as you want .Or you can leave the I.R. side off .
