Important (To me) Decision on Radio Systems-Help!

I need your guys help on this, and its complicated. So if you want to pass this post over I get it. I am posting this long post because I am lost here when it comes to radio system. i want to know what options I can have for a better, more reliable 2.4 ghz radio system or should i just keep changing parts on the old one.

Here's the problem, i seem to go through HL 2.4 Ghz receivers the way other people go through socks. On my King Tiger, I torched another HL 2.4 gig receiver (traverse function, only) and i don't even know what i did to cause it.
I removed the turret to paint the underside, and to try to tidy up the wirin with zip ties. When done I reinstalled the turret gear ring, and turn on the system and tested it, the turret traverse worked for about 3 seconds then -poof. No more turret traverse. Everything else worked. Motors work gun goes up and down,the tank has sound. The wires are intact-nothing has pulled loose(-i know this because I tracked it down after testing everything and swapping the receiver for an identical one, from another tank, and all is well again traverse works!!!!)....it is a mystery to me what i did to make this happen.

I eventually traced the problem, to the receiver. I swapped receivers, bound my second transmitter to it, even traded the wires, but, ultimately i traced the problem to the receiver-that was the problem. Executive Summary: everything worked BUT turret traverse so i swapped out the Rx from my Panzer III to make the King Tiger whole again and that fixed it, the traverse worked repeatedly (I hope, unless it burns out again!!!!)
anyway, I have two choices, buy another HL receiver for $32, or, I was thinking of trying THIS 2.4 ghz system from Imex-Taigen:



I have a few questions for people who have experience with this system:
-will my HL wires plug into and work with this?
-is this radio system enough of an upgrade to bother with? Or should i just get another HL receiver?
-I read that the receiver they use, is just a rebranded Heng long Rx18 remade to work with 2.4 Ghz, and with a fan on the case. Is that true? And if so, why even bother with the Taigen system:?
-Most important, would this system be any more reliable or robust then the Heng long 2.4 ghz radio system? It seems like every time i open the hull i burn up another Rx function!
-As discussed earlier, though, the receivers and transmitters do not interchange between the Heng long 2.4 gig and this one. If it' s just a rebrand then what is different about them? Is this system better then the HL and if so, how? Your comments please?

To further complicate the question-. I do have, a model airplane 4 or 5 channel transmitter. It's about 10 years old...i don't have any servos just the Tx and Rx per the pictures. I know a little about the "clark boards". The picture shows everything i have already for this system. Would it be practical to consider the clark board or some other similar system to use on my tanks with the radio Tx shown, to start with??

Go with the Clark board, the sounds alone are worth so much more. Your biggest cost is switching radios and if you have that covered already then you are way ahead of the game,
from what I see in the picture you have everything you need for the Clark board. A servo is not neccesary as you can use your existing HL recoil. If your tank is BB then it is super easy to convert to an IR recoil version with the Clark board. I sent you a pm and if you need help on the recoil let me know, I have instructions that I think are pretty clear.

I would go with an IBU2 plugs straight in to heng long tanks, easy to use, great sound/ feature's and you just need a new receiver, your current transmitter (4/5 channel one) should work as long as its a 2.4Ghz one? If not I recommend a turnigy 9xr/ 9x Tx and a 9x reciever, I know its more money to spend but with thus system its reliable and adaptable to other tanks/ models. Good luck!

Hi Marc, if you were in the UK I would go along with Spongy but as you are in California then IMMORTAL and CLARK would appear to be the best way to go, good luck with the black magic we know as electric's. shaun

From my own experience of the Taigen system, you are likely to find it no more reliable than a Heng Long.

Biggest issue you have Marc is why are you going through recievers? there has to be a short or a cause of some sort. Before you make a decision on what to do resolve that issue.
As I said in the pm follow the battery cables first, then check all your connectors for something causing the short as the most obvious reason for the cooked boards. changing anything without fixing the problem will just frustrate you more and waste cash. don't be afraid to pm or mail me with questions

I am with freaky 100%....... If you are going thru MFUs like crazy then going to Clark or IBU is just going to be more expensive. I know that HL/Taigen are not hobby grade radio, but they are pretty good at what they do and will take some abuse/mis-use. Problem with your radio shouldn't cause the MFU to fried........ Anyway, my only point is that if you are going thru MFU like that you should actually stay with the cheap stuff until you stabilize the situation.

The radio/receiver you have will work, but you will probably want self centered sticks for tanking.
