new member from Scotland

Post by alphatiger88 »

hi all,
i just got my first rc tank, its just a heng long tiger 1 ( read that tamiya's are not so hot when getting a hard time ) but did come with a few metal parts , a friend from tamiya club pointed me toward this place as the best for rc tank madness , been into rc cars for decades and was taken by a few stunning pics that i saw of some heng long shermans in a field that , for a moment, i thought were real !
so i jumped online and grabbed a tiger 1 , will be modding and upgrading it a bit over the winter and will no doubt need help from many of you folks ,
looking forward to learning about whats possible with these veritable bargain tanks ,
best regs,
Nat :)

HMMMMMMMMMMMM...can't call you Alpha... cause I'm ALPHA :haha: ....can't call you tiger...Cause I call Tiger Tiger..Tiger :haha: ...so how about 88? :D

Welcome to the board 88 ;) ....RC tanks are a great deal of fun... just like cars ...you can take them as far as you want to go in the way of mods ... and further if you go into detail....Not sure who told you that about Tamiyas...but glad you went in shallow with a Heng Long...though I think you might have had more fun with a Sherman :D

Again Welcome...Enjoy the board and the Adventure

PS. Photos of your tank please

thanks for the welcome folks , i havent had time to paint it yet , will need to get some paint once i decide on a paint scheme , snow/winter camo is most appealing at the moment , not sure how to post images on these boards , http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh93 ... 80accd.jpg ,
i have had a few issues , antenna wire needed resoldered after it got caught on the turret , drive sprockets needed to be tightened and the rx crystal wouldnt plug in as the rx board was badly aligned , the rx18 control unit was in an odd place as the hull still had the mounting stand offs for the older control board , nothing major , just a bit of fine tuning , soldering and dremeling , first thing i did when i got home was to terrorize the neighbours cat :haha: . so much fun

Welcome. You have some nice RC cars on your photobucket. What Porsche is that? I always wanted an original Tamiya 959 but they'll never reissue it due to licensing apparently.

Tamiya's are expensive but extremely robust. People run them for years with almost no maintenance.

thankyou for the welcome and kind words , i think you might have the Renault alpine a110 or nissan raybrig nsx confused with a Porsche , you are not the first ! :D , being a tamiya fan i would love a tamiya tank but adding up the cost of a full function version i could have several all metal HL's or taigens , TBH i wasnt expecting much from the HL but now i have gave it a few good runs over stuff i suspect would rip plastic tracks apart and i am amazed at how well the HL does , it needs more torque from the little motors so will fit some 1/16 rock crawler motors soon. and, the smoke unit is rather poor but an easy fix ,
i have ordered some more metal parts , early road wheels and suspension arms from forgebear and a taigen speaker to tide me over until i get the internals sorted to accept a visaton or maybe a seas drive unit .
thanks again to you all :)
