Tracks on the turret

Post by jackalope »

Sorry to be asking so many questions lately but I searched and couldn't find this either, how do I mount the tracks to the sides of the turret? Sure I could just glue them on but that seems wrong. :haha: I looked around at some suppliers but I didn't see any kits or mounting stuff, HELP.

This would be for my Tiger I project.

Jack, If you go to http://www.welshdragonmodels.com
when the home page comes up, you go to the right top line (upgrade HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO ) click! then scroll down to TIGER 1 click! 3rd line down and click! on spare tracks and holders. job done. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Hmmmm..... They're the late model tracks with the ice cleats but I guess I could just grid them off. Thanks Shaun ordering them tonight!

Jack glad to help, just a thought, if you have a spare track holder across the front of your Tiger, why not use those tracks to mount on the side of the turret and put the tracks coming from WDMs in the front? shaun

On the real thing it was done as a modification early on, so you see it from early production onwards. The track holders were sent out to field workshops and fit by the maintenance sections. 5 on the commanders side, 3 on the loaders side. I have a feeling it was cancelled later on but David Bryden can tell you specifics.

You can by a Shumo reproduction from Welshdragon and Axels.

The front ones are staying there I just need the ones for the turret sides and that kit you showed me should work perfectly with a little bit of modification. In the mean time I have lots of painting and detailing to do. If all goes well I'll even have some pics to post up tonight.

Wow. They're all upside down.

The track holders were installed from April 1943 and never went away. There was a pin to hold the bottom of each link, and a folding flap at the top.
There were 5 links on the left side. At first they wanted 4 links on the right hand side, but they quickly dropped to 3 and then 2 because they simply couldn't open the engine hatch.

Here's a detailed explanation; http://tiger1.info/EN/Turret-track-holders.html
