All the NIcads will give you some warning that they need to be recharged before they go dead. I'll stick with the large capacity Nicads. Lots of run time without the hassle.
The problem I see is with the tank electronics, there isn't a lipo cut off. With most ESC's for air planes and cars these days there is a lipo cut off which will keep the battery from dropping below it's rechargeable voltage. There are lipo cut offs available that you can put between the battery connector and the speed control connector that will protect the battery. I have successfully recharged a lipo after it has dropped below it's recharge voltage by charging it using the nicad setting on my charger for about 30 seconds. You then re-set the charger to the lipo setting and charge as usual. THIS IS A DANGEROUS THING TO DO however. I only do it outside with the lipo battery in a lipo charging bag.

I've been running lipos in my tanks for over a year..never added any special gadgets to them... and actually when the battery does get low...the reaction is the same as the other types...tank just goes a little wonky doodle...doesn't respond...you know the regular song and danceImage

Helicopters and Airplanes have warning circuits....BECAUSE YOU MUST LAND BEFORE YOU DON'T HAVE POWER :haha: ....Tanks are grounded...so no biggies :D
